STAKES TO CLOSE. Elsewhere in this issue will be found the announcement by the Saratoga Association of a list of big stakes for next year, entries to which will close Monday, November 11. Mr. William C. Whitney haB set about to make Saratoga the Newmarket of America and from the elaborate and comprehensive scope of the improvements designed for that famouB battle ground of horses will be sure to succeed. Ever popular with western ownorB Saratoga will become more so in view of the great monetary attractions tendered by the new regime. Every stake here proffered is of great value and worthy of any turfmans ardent desire. They are oarnestly commended to the consideration of western owners, with the admonition that the date of closing entries is near at hand. Attention is also directed to the big list of stakes offered by the Crescent City Jockey Club of New Orleans. ThiB popular racing organization is now about as firmly established and prosperous as any in the land, and has here shown a commendable disposition to divide profits with horse ownerB by such a liberal increase of its stakes and purses, as compared with the offerings of the last meeting, that a better class of horses than have heretofore participated in racing at the metropolis of the south aro bound to be attracted in large numbers. Entries close here Thursday, November 14, and those who have not already sent in their nominations should make haste to do so.
