IiAKKSIDE RACING. The attendance at Lakeside yesterday was as large as usual despite tha first ral touch of winter weather that prevailed throughout the day. There was a dearth of excitement to the finishes, five out of the six races being won easily. The betting waB comparatively brisk and heavy for a Monday gathering. The feature event of the day was the fourth, a dash of one and one sixteenth miles for all ages. Of the seven scheduled to start Omdurman was the only absentee. Searcher with Coburn in the saddle was made an overwhelming favorite, but he had to succumb to Miracle II., which carried but 74 pounds. He we b held at 4 to 1 in the betting and was generously backed by the talent. Little Knapp, who rode Henry of Trastamnre to victory last Saturday, had the mount. Off to a good start Miracle 11. at once took command, closely attended by Searcher. The former held his advantage by a length clear up to the turn for home, but many thought that as long as Searcher could stay up that close to the youngster for the first seven furlongs be would surely outran him in the stretch. Such was not tho case, however, as when Mir-cle II. got well straightened for home he kept gradually moving away from Searcher, finally winning with consnmmato ease by three lengths while Searcher beat Valdez six for second place. The Boer and Pay the Fiddler showed well until in the last quarter, where both fell away beaten. Santa Teresa ran a dull race and was virtually beaten off after the firBt half had been run. Tho first race, a dash of five and a half fur-loDgs for maiden two-year-olds, proved an easy thing for the long overdue Inspector Shea. As good as 4 to 1 could be had against him in the ring: After Asbbrook and The Stewardess had run themselves into exhaustion Inspector Shea, which had always laid within easy call of them came away without much of an effort in the last eighth and won in a canter by four lengths. Although The Stewardess was tiring fast at tho end she had enough left to beat out Dnlcimer a length for second place. Asbbrook quit and fell back when a furlong out. Crescent City ran well for five furlongs. . If You Dare, sadly overlooked by the talent, was much the best in the second race, a dash of five and a half furlongs. Kentucky, on the strength of his last good showing, was made an even money favorite, but ran an indifferent race, failing to show inside of the money If You Dare, with Little Jack Horner lapped on, showed the way to the final quarter, where the latter was beaten, the former moving gradually away from his field and winning easily by two and a half lengths. Sea Qneen came fast in tha last eighth, gettiDg second place easily by a length and a half from Lennep. The latter was well backed by the sharpshooters at 3 to 1, but ran an indifferent race, being outrun from start to finish. Kentucky showed well for a half milo and then gradually fell away beaten. Free Pass had little trouble in winning the third race, a dash once around the circle. Always well up for the first six furlongs ho was not called upon until well into tha laat quarter, whert he camo away with ease winning by five lengths from Lord RobertB, which beat B. G. Fox a head for second place. B. G. Fox, all on tangled at the start, made up ground rapidly after the first quarter had been run. Ho finished fast and would have been second in another stride. Evelyn Byrd had enough after running seven furlongs. Bed Apple showed early speed. Eva Rice, which is good juBt now, took the fifth race in a mild drive from Linden Ella by a longth. She led by a big margin up to the final sixteenth, where she began to tire, bnt had enough left to stall off Linden Ellas bid in the closing strides. The latter beat Baird three lengths for second place. Sam Lazarus Esq. ran well for Bix furlongs. The last race was the most exciting of the days sport, Bosa Diah, Cora Havill II. and Zack Phelps passing under the wire heads apart in the order named. First Zacatoso and then Cora Havill II. took tho lead, tho latter holding it until the last sixteenth where at least six of the field closed up on her. Boaa Diah, next to thn inBido rail, finished stoutly, but Cora Havill II. was well spent in the last fifty yards and would have lest second place in another stride to Zack Phelps. Tho lattor was mnch the best. He was the victim of a bad rid. Hops taking him in and out all over tho track while coming down tha backstrstcb. The liorao made up much ground in the last quarter and was running past horses at the end. Automaton ran well for six furlongs.
