Sheriff Bell finished strongly and was much the best of the others. Esherin began slowly but moved up. fast in the last quarter and was going stoutly at the finish. Brixton moved up fast when turning for homeland, shaking off Escalante with ease, came on and won as his rider pleased. Martin Burke was easily outrun in the first half, but closed up ground in the last quarter and finished strongly. Escalante tired badly just after entering the laBt quarter. Gold Bell began slowly and appeared to have little chance in the first three furlongs, but when turning for home he moved up on the field fast and oame away as his rider pleased in the laBt eighth. Watkins Overton finished strongly and outstayed Tom Cogan for second place. The latter showed much speed, but was well spent when the last eighth struggle came up. Claude appeared to have a chance when a furlong out, but tired fast when the pinch came. Albemarle showed early speed. Torpedo moved up fast after seven furlongs had been run and held what appeared an easy command until just before reaching the last eighth post, where he was joined by Lucien Appleby, the two fighting it out stride for stride to the wire under hard punishment. Wild Pirate ceased to be a keen contender when a furlong out. Otis gradually fell away beaten when entering the last quarter. Aladdin tired rapidly after showing well for a mile. The latter was under keen pressure all through the last eighth, but tired badly in the closing strides. C. B. Campbell was well spent when a furlong out.
