HARLEM STAKE ENTRIES. Entries for the ten additional stakes of the Harlem Jockey Club that closed last week show that with a season of reasonably fair weather the best racing of the year is yet to come. Every performer with pretensions to good class is engaged in the fixtures yet to bo decided; every stable of note is represented and in numbers the nominations show a greater increase than were ever recorded for any stakes at any course. The ten summer and fall events drew last year a total of 317 nominations, while the same stakes this year attracted a list of 661 entries, an increase of more than 100 per cent. This remarkable circumstance indicates the eagerness of owners to offer their best for the sport that is so generously managed and patronized in Chicago this year. The two steeplechase stakes this year gathered seventy-nine nominations against forty-three a year ago, while the eight races on the fiat average seventy-three each now as against thirty-four last summer. By the same token the class of racing as compared to last season should improve in proportion, the material being on hand and engaged. The following comparative table is of in- Entries 1901.
