DKKBY AMD ST. 1EGER. The Derby and the Doncaster St. Leger have been won by the same colt twenty times since ISOO. The first one to win the double event was Mr. Wilsons Champion, by Pot Huncamunca, by Highflyer,in 1800. In 1818 Lord Clifdens Surplice, by Touchstone Crucifix, by Priam, won, followed in 1849 by Lord Eglingtons The Flying Dutchman, by Bay Mid-dleton Barbelle, by Sandbeck. In 1850 Lord Zetland won with Voltigeur, by Voltaire Martha Lynn, by Mulatto. In 1853 Bowes West Australian, by Melbourne Mowerina, by Touchstone, won.SIn 1864 Mr. W. I. Anson won with Blair Athol, by Stockwell Blink Bonny, by Melbourne. In 1865 Count de La Grages Gladiateur, by Monarque Miss Gladiator, by Q Gladiator, won. Mr. Sutton was successful in 1866 with Lord Lyon, by Stockwell Paradigm, by Paragon. In 1877 8ilvio, by Blair Athol Silverhair, by Kingston, won for Lord Falmouth. In 1881 Mr. P. Lorillard won with the American-bred Iroauois, by Leamington -Maggie B. B by Australian. In 1885 Melton, by Master Kildare Violet Melrose, by Scottish Chief, carried 6ff the prize for Lord Hastings. In 1886 the Duke of Westminster won with Or-monde, by Bend Or Lily Agnes, by Macaroni. In 1889 the Duke of Portlands Donovan, by Galopin Mowerina, by Scottish Chief, was the winner. Sir F. Johnstone was successful in 1891 with Common, by Isonomy Thistle, by Scottish Chief. In 1893 Mr. H. McCalmonts Isinglass, by Isonomy Deadlock, by Wenlock, won. In 1895 Lord Roseberys Sir Visto, by Barcaldine Vista, by Macaroni, won. In 1896 King Edward VII., then Prince of Wales, won his first Derby with Persimmon, by St. Simon Perdita II., by Hampton. Mr. John Gubbins won in 1897 with the Irish-bred horse Galtoe More, by Kendal Morganette, by Springfield. The Duke of Westminster was again successful in 1899 with Flying Fox, by Orme Vampire, by Galopin, and in 1900 King Edward VII. won with Diamond Jubilee, by St. Simon Perdita II., by Hampton. Of the above named nine have also won the 2,000 Guineas the same year i. e., West Australian, Lord Lyon, Gladiateur, Ormonde, Diamond Jubilee, Flying Fox, Common, Isinglass and Galtee More.
