Rough Rider got away running, led throughout and ran a surprisingly good race. Satire, lucky and well handled, made good unexpectedly well and finished strongly. Brunswick is racing into condition and outclasses this field when entirely fit. He was a good horse, but had a poor chance with his bad rider. Mary Worth, nearly left, worked a rough journey and closed a tremendous gap in the first seven furlongs. She was a good filly today and should win soon. San Andres has lost her form and ran a dull race. Frank McKee is evidently moderate and favors soft going, Edgefield went well for a half. - Lee King rcn badly. Chnctanunda waited on the pacemakers to the stretch turn, where he flashed to the front in a twinkling and was easing up at the end. Cloritas was a brilliant and game effort and she is a good class filly. Smart Set closed a big gap in the last half and shows quick improvement and will be heard from hereafter. Old England quit under a pull after going the first half and was quite lame after the race. The others were far outclassed. Winner Ch. h, by Great Tom Nellie Van trained by A. Shields. Went to post at 3:18. At post 2 minutes. Start straggling. Won handily: second easily. Advance Guard was lucky in being favored with a fast pace. Under a powerful and skillful ride he moved up on tho turn and wore Dublin down in the stretch. The latter, nearly left at the post and excessively used in taking the lead in the first half, drew away on the far turn and appeared almost a sure winner, ran a remarkable race and is in rare form. Knight of Rhodes boat the gate and made the most of the advantage in stealing a long lead on the first turn, but was quickly joined by Dublin. After a brush with the latter he succumbed but outstayed Ethics, which raji in bad form and is evidently stale. Red Knight displayed brilliant and unexpected form over a distance of ground, was reserved to the stretch and made good in impressive fashion and won going away. Orloff stuck to his work well in spite of an early hard effort to follow the pacemakers fast pace closely and was second best. Dr. Saylor broke flatfootod and lost ground in the first sixteenth, which he gradually made up and finished with a rush and is a stayer. Warte Nicht is best in mud but wont well throughout. Bockwater followed Monograph closely to the far turn and was apparently driving and beaten, when suddenly and unexpectadly the pacemaker quit and Bockwater shot into a long and winning lead which she easily retained to the end. Barouche went well and running well up throughout finished fast and is about due for a win. Monograph quit under a pull after goinefive furlongs. Skilful broke flatfooted, but worked his way through, and after making a wide stretch turn took command of affairs in the stretch and never relinquished his lead, running a remarkably fast and game race. Meltonian is greatly improved, closed a gap in the last half, finishing very fast and will develop into a crackarjack. Courtmaid is a fine filly and displayed a high order of speed and stamina. John A. Scott was badly interfered with at the half. Shorthose. practically left, made up fifteen lengths, running on the outside, and was best at the weights. Molly Brant was not good enough and overweighted. Americano showed speed, is being raced into condition and will be heard from.
