McChesney ran a high class race. He always laid up close to the leaders and when well straightened for home gradually wore down Bon Mot, finishing with splendid determination and responding gamely under a strong, hard Tide. The latter ran the best race of his career and stood a last sixteenth drive with gameness, but the winner was too much for him. Corrigan ran to his best form, wearing down Miracle II. in the last eighth for third place. Miracle II. was carried too fast in the first seven furlongs and was well beaten when turning for home.
