LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. A rumor was current before the racing yesterday that McChesney had fallen and injured himself, while being taken off the car after being shipped from Hawthorne. The horse, while walking in the paddock before the stake race, showed an ugly gash about two inches long on one of his hind legs, evidently made by the heel of one of his plates in an attempt to arise from the ground after falling. John F. Schorr shipped Joe Frey, Almaric and Esherin to St. Louis, where they, will be raced until the close of the season. The two-year-old Maxette, belonging to M. Shannon, accompanied the Schorr horses. Green H. Morris is expected to arrive in Chicago from New York Thursday with his strong stable of horses, which includes the Buffalo Derby winner, Sombrero, Homestead, Cunard, Old England, Art-vis, Janice and others. H. Stover arrived yesterday from Toronto with W. H. Ketchimana horses and will race the remainder of the season on the local tracks. H. Gardner, the owner of Scotch Plaid, instructed his trainer, T. Licalzi, to protect the horse to ,205 in case he won and was bid up. When Secretary Nathanandon asked for bids on the horse after he had won Mr. Durnell, of Durnell and Herz, bid 00, an advance of 00 over the entered price, and as no other bids were made the horse was sold to Mr. Durnell. Mr. Licalzi latter informed Gardner that he had made an advance bid and thought that the bid of 00 was his. Gardner recently claimed Rolling Boer from Durnell and Herz. Jockeys T. Dean and Otis willl arrive today from St. Louis. Jockeys R. Steele and Mclnerney, who i have been riding on the Canadian circuit the past ; summer, will be additional riding talent at Worth. Both are due to arrive from Toronto today. Jockey L. Jackson who was in the employ of G. B. Morris, and who has been riding at St. Louis will arrive at Worth today and ride for H. Stover the remainder of the season. From a time standpoint the Chicago Stakes was the slowest race run in Chicago in many years, the first half mile being covered in 56 seconds, the three-quarters in 1 :27, and the mile in 1 :59, the last half mile, 1:03.
