ST. LOUIS TWO-YEAK-OLDS. c Goheimniss decisive victory over Fore and Aft, Henry McDaniel, Bas dOr, Gold Bell and Pour- quoi Pas at the Fair Grounds last Thursday, j demonstrated beyond all shadow of a doubt that Barney Schreibers Sain Theresia filly is the best youngster in training here. After the , race T. P. Hayes remarked that in his estima- j tion Geheimniss was the best filly of the year on the American turf. Geheimniss haswon moreraces than any two-year-old trained here this seasou. Schreiber is justly proud of the filly, having bred her himself at his Woodlands stud in St. Louis county. Geheimniss siro, Sain, is a son of St. Serf, which was sired by the great .English stallion, St. Simon. Geheimnies dam, Theresia, is a Duke of Mootro-e mare, and, her dam, La Farondello, was sired by Baden Baden, winner of the Kentucky Derby. Theresia is a young mare, Geheimoess be-ing the first of her produce to race. Schreiber bought Theresia as a yearling and named her in honor of one of his sisters. Theresia showed a rare turn of speed in her yearling trials, but went wrong in the spring of her two-yoar-old form and never raced. Next to Geheimniss, the best two-year-old shown at the Fair Grounds is E. J. Arnold and Co.s Fitz-brillar, the speedy Fitz James Brillar colt, that won a stake at Worth the other day. Fitzbrillar was bred at Rancho del Paso and was raced in the east last Bpring. Tom Kiley bought the colt for Arnold last summer and developed him into a good horse at Delmar. Fitzbrillar is intensely inbred to the great Touchstone. His sire Fitz James is a sou of Kyrle Daly, who was by the English horse Artillery, a son of Orlando. Brillar, the dam of Fitzbrillar comes from a fine family. She was sired by Flambeau. Another crack colt in the Arnold stable is Fort Wayno, by Fresno Calve. This gelding is beautifully bred on his dams side, Calvei being a half sister to Utility, dam of the great Wax Taper, and also a half sister to the successful sire Cayuga, who got Sam Phillips, a St. Louis Derby winner,. Calve is a daughter of Calvados, who was sired by the great Galopin, Fort Waynes sire, Fresno, is a son of Falsetto. Brewer Garsts Fore and Aft, who beat Handspin-ner at a mile, is the best George Kinney horso developed in recent years. Fore and Aft is by George Kinney Topsail and has a double cross of Queen Mary in his pedigree. Queen Mary is one of the gems of the English stud book. George Kinney was Bired by Bonnie Scotland, who was out of Queen Mary. On his dams side, Fore and Aft also gets a strong strain of Queen Mary blood. Topsail was by Chevalier, a son of Prince Charlie, who was by Blair Athol, son of Queen Mary. Handspinner is also well bred, being by St. LeonardsDistaff. St. Leonards was a superior raco horse in his day. Ho ran Eecond to Boundless in the great !,0G0 Worlds Fair Derby at Washington Park. Distaff was sired by Lowland Chief and has been a successful produc3r in the stud. Besides Handspinner she has thrown Flax Spinner and Arachne, two well known performers, Handspinner has the appaarancs of a colt that should develops into a high claBS three-year-old. G. C. Bakers Jack Young, winner of eight or ten races at the Fair Grounds and Delmar this year, is a half brother to the good race mare Algie M. Johnetta, dam of Jack Young and Algie M., is by Bramble and comes from the Black Sophia family. Proctor Knott, Helen Nichols, Eva Dinsmore, Wrestler and other good horses come from the same family. Tom Hayes offered Baker ,500 for Jack-Young the other day, but the offer was declined. W. W. Dardens good colt, J. Sidney Walker, winner of tho Kindergarten Stakes at the Fair Grounds last spring, is by First Mate The Chough, by Macduff. Tho Chough is out of The Crow, a mare by Onondaga. The Crow also produced Sophronia D , a good raco mara by Pirate of Penzinco. The Chough means a young squab crow. J. Sidney Walker was named in honor of a prominent young St. Louis business man. Darden and his turf partner, G. L. Crawford, predict a brilliant three-year-old career for J. Sidney Walker. Olefiant, winner of the Debutante and Junior Championship stakes at the Fair Grounds last spring, is by Ornus-Alveria M.. a young mare by Top Gallant. Olefiant is now racing in tho east and holding her own with the best two-year-old fillies on tho Metropolitan circuit. Capt. B. C. Bunburys Yal Verde is another highly-bred racing tool. Her sire, Gullantry, is a son of the great Galopin, while her dam, Zitella, by Barnes, first achieved prominence in tho stud as tho dam of St. Marcos, one of the bsst handicap horses in S. C. Hildrcths string last year. Dan Houig has a promising filly in Avoid, by Tithonus Touch Not. Tithonus is a son of St. , Simon, whi!o Touch Not is a daughter of Tremont, 1 out of Touch Me Not, by Great Tom. Honig bought ; Avoid from Brewer Gerst. The Fair Gr unds meeting will be brought to a close next Friday when the Final Stakes with ,000 added will ba iun nt one milo and a sixteenth. The I Final closed with 116 nominations, including nearly every good horse in training on the Western circuit, . E. J. Arnold has all his good ones in tho Stake in c j , j cluding Searcher, Peaceful and Felix Bard. Searcher is a recent addition to the stable. Searcher is the Hindoo horse that won the Club Members Handicap for Sam Hildreth last June. Arnold bought tho animal from Sam recently for a fancy price. T. P. Hayes also has all his good ones in the Final Stakes, including Lady Strathmore, Jordan and Buccleuth. Barney Schreiber expects to win the stake witn his crack race mare, Echwalbe. This, filly is cherry ripe at present and ought to go extremely well in the closing stake event of the St. Louis meeting. There will be no more racing in this vicinity after next Friday until the spring of 1903. Most of the prominent owners will ship direct from St. Louis to Ldtonia at the conclusion of the local racing season. H.
