Best Man outstayed Limelight in the laet sixteenth struggle I for third place. The latter showed speed for four and a half furlongs. Theory had no chance after the barrier went up. Scarlet Lily was under a bard drive all through the last quarter, responded tfith gameness and finished stoutly. Felix Bard also ran well and finished strongly. Mac Gyle tired fast when the pinch came. Vulcain was right there when a furlong out, but tired fast in the closing strides. Water Edge wheeled at the start and had no chance thereafter. Fairbury easily wore down Georgie in the last eighth, but was under stroog urging in the closing strides to stall off Preterms determined bid. The latters jockey got his chin caught in the rising barrier and it threw-him back considerably. Pretorius made up ground steadily throughout and finished strongly. He was the best and would have won but for the mishap. Herodiade appeared to have a good chance in the last eighth but tired perceptibly in the closing strides. Automaton finished stoutly and would have been third in another stride or two.
