Albemarle showed sudden improvement and stood a long stretch drive with gameness, outstaying Brookston in the closing strides. Tho latter ran a good race and showed some of his last spring form, but tired perceptibly in the last twenty yards. Angelo was well spent when a furlong out. Jove ran an unaccountably bad race. Mayor John-. son showed much speed, but had to be driven out to the limit to stall off Jauberts determined bid in the last thirty yards. The latter finished stoutly and would have won in a few more strides. Howen-dobler made up ground steadily throughout and finished strongly. Sarah Maxim was pocketed badly for the first half, but moved up fast next to the inside rail while coming down the stretch. Optional faltered when the pinch came and was under a hard drive all through the last quarter. Little Jack Horner, as usual, showed early speed. Lou Woods ran a dull race considering the weights and is certainly inconsistent. Tom Kinxsley showed much speed, but maintained it for only six furlongs. The others were never in th hunt.
