BROOKLYN JOCKEY CLUB STAKES. In this issue appears the announcement of the big list of rich stakes offered by the Brooklyn Jockey Club, entries to which will close Monday, January 5, 1903. Following in the line of progress which happily prevails in turf affairs at present. Secretary Mclntyre gives notice that the Brooklyn Handicap is changed from a guaranteed stake of the value of ,0CO to an added money stake with 0,000 added. The immediate effect of the change is that it is computed the gross value of this great race will be 7,500 in 1903, which would give tho winner approximately 4,000 as compared with the ,800 of 1902, an advance that owners will heartily appreciate. The stakes now offered are: FOE THEEE-YEAE-OLD9 AND UPWAED. The Brooklyn Handicap, 0,000 added ; 1 1-4 miles. The Standard Stakes, ,000 added; 1 1-2 miles. These stakes are in addition to the great list already closed, which includes such star events as the Great American, 2,500; Tremont, 0,000; Junior Champion, 5,000; Brooklyn Derby, 0,000; Hindoo. 5,000, and other rich stakes which will be decided in 1903. Consideration of the terms of the present offerings are earnestly commended to owners of good horses. The Brooklyn Jockey Club is One of the foremost racing organizations of this country and none has done more to foster the beBt interests of the turf.
