NA.SHVIF.LK NEWS. Nashville, Term., Feb. 18. Weather conditions are very unfavorable for training operations at Nashville at present. The main track is covered with snow, and there has not been a horse on it this week. The covered track is used by almost every trainer. Since the weather has been so unfavorable for training operations it is certain the Gorman and Bauer pair, Sinner Simon and Bar-dolph, will not be sent to New Orleans for the Crescent City Derby. This conclusion was reached today by trainer Bellew. "While Nashville will have no representative for the New Orleans event several of the three-year-olds are being pointed to-j the Tennessee Derby, and it is almost c pain Postmaster Wright, Olefiant, Fore ana Aft and one or two others will be especially prepared for the big Memphis race. Entries for the Canadian Derby have been announced. The list is a great one. Walter C. Parmer, secretary, who lives at Nashville, made known the entries. - Fdrhe Canadiair Sportsmans Handicap are sixty-six nominations, among the number of nominations being such horses as Alfred "Vargrave, Merriment, Easy Street, Mc-Chesney, Lucien Appleby, Caliban, Mrs. Frank Foster, Spinel, Red Robe, Reservation, Allopath, Albula, Chamblee, St. Hera, Bill Massie, Ethel Wheat and others. For the Grand Canadian Steeplechase the great jumpers Tip Gallant, Benson Caldwell, Dr. Nowlin, Lord Farandole, Bellcourt, Tommy Hill, Captain Conover, Sauber, Governor Boyd, Cubanite, Hie Away, Philma Paxton, Hand Vice, Afghan, King Galong, Trenct the Mere, Competitor, Gould, Phosphorous, Creaper, L. W. and Terry Ranger. The riding talent has begun to arrive at Cumberland Park. There is already on the grounds Richard Ryan, who rides for Frank Bruhns; J. Irviri, engaged by S. E. Parmer; H. Boland, who is to do the lightweight riding for John Ferris; jockey Landry, who is under contract to Gorman and Bauer, is also here. A. W. Booker, under contract to W. W. Darden, arrived a -day or so ago and reported for duty. He has begun with the Darden horses. The Drake people have had jockeys Houbre, Mead and Wilson with them for some time. All three of these boys are hard at work each day. Wishard has them out early and exercising horses too. Both Mead and Houbre are living with Wishard and they are early to bed and up at the peep of day. The Drake trainer is greatly pleased with his selection of riding talent, and he thinks he will have a great lightweight in Houbre. Tom Hayes is on the hunt for a first class rider for this season. He has thirty-five horses in his string and will employ the best riding talent only. William Gerst also is without a regular rider, as is the case with John Walters, Albert Franklin and Clay Bros. J.
