Illyria improves with each race and his performance today was the best he has ever shown He held closely to Demurrer for nearly a quarter, was within striking distance all the way and wore the favorite down in the final furlong under a hard drive. Demurrers last race took the edge off his speed and he did not display his usual flash in getting away from the post and tired in the stretch. Dr. Saylor was shut off on the first turn and went around the other horses on the stretch turn and outgamed Ahumada in the final drive. Heavy going suit the latter. Won driving; second the same Race King is a quick breaker, displayed much speed and stood a long stretch drive gamely" while Redfern put up a hustling finish andthat won for the colt. Petunia was slowly wearing him down at the end and would have won in another fifty yards. She is better conditioned than the others, but is probably not the- good filly expected. Judge is rounding to quickly, came with a rush on the turn and went around the field, but the effort was too much for him and he tired in the final drive. Eclectic unseated Minder while at the post and showed but little speed. Judge, show, out. fiOm THP R,CE7boutx2 1"2TMile,s 4-year-olds and upward. Steeplechase.
