The Miller received a lucky start, fell right in behind the pacemaker, which he followed closely and finally wore down in the stretch, winning going away fast. Stirling Towers suddenly developed improved speed and stamina and ran a good race. Tyranus was skillfully handled and steadily improved his position and was going fast at the end under punishment. The Singer was crowded against the rail early and closed a fair gap. Young Morello prefers stiff going, went a good five furlongs and was easing up in the last furlong. Legal Maxim was always outrun. Doublet forged to the front with ease after indulging Royal F. with the lead to the stretch, outclassing the, field. Royal F. evidently liked the sloppy going for he raced into a long lead early, after getting away badly, but was tiring badly at the end. Sugden began slowly and closed a tremendous gap from the half, is in great form and almost invincible on a heavy track. Pat Oran got away badly and improved his position. Jennie Hughes retired early. J. Boggs was unable to stride freely in the going. Scratched 37882 Saul of Tarsus, 104; 37959 Cathello, 104; 37957 Cherries, 102; 37959 Montana Peeress, 97. Overweights Jennie Hughes, 5 pounds. Winner Ch. g, by Flambeau Bonair trained by R. Hughes. Went to post at 3:03. At post 1 minute. Start fair. Won driving; second the same. Flamero received a lucky start and being particularly favored by the going he ran in much improved form, came through next to the rail on the stretch turn, interfering sharply with the favorite, then came on in the best going and just lasted out. Mexicana got away flat-footed and. quickly raced into a long and apparently winning lead, but easing up on the turn was crossed by the winner and her chances destroyed. She finished very fast, but was swerving in the bad going at the end. Pat Morrissey got away badly, closed a great gap and finished fast. Bogus Bill was not quite good enough in the going. Priestlike fell away after excessive early use in following the fast early pace. Sea Lion was overweighted and outrun, but was gaining at the end. Snare was badly interfered with at the start. She was probably handicapped by the track conditions as she failed to show her usual dazzling early speed. Military Man, away slowly, came through on the inside, finished with a rush and was wearing the winner down. Cascine was carried wide on the stretch turn and thrown off his stride and ran a high-class race. Dr. Rowell got away flatfooted, was forced into the deep going and failed right at the end. Lady Kent got away running, forced the pace throughout and bearing out in the stretch and interfering with the chief contender scored a lucky victory. Grail went wide on the first turn and although poorly ridden raced with the winner throughout, losing ground through interference in the last quarter and was probably best. Bill Massie was well up from the start and was closing up very fast at the end. Annie Max tired in the last quarter after following the pace closely. Grafter ran a dull race, fell out of contention early and never flattered his backers after that. Searcher is in bad form. Scratched-37958 Water Cure, 100; 37942Dainty 95 Lady Kent, show, 1 to 2. Sunello was given a lucky start and besides being skillfully handled was particularly favored by the going, followed the pacemaker closely and caught her tiring in the last quarter, coming away very easily at the end. Canejo made the running for nine furlongs and held on gamely. Tufts, poorly ridden, finished with a rush as usual. Filibuster was always outrun and Tulare never a serious contender.
