Winner Ch. c, by Golden Gate La Clair trained by M. Daly. Went to post at 3:00. At post 2 minutes. Start fair. Won driving; second handily. Slidell is very fit. Away well and in a good position to the stretch he closed up gamely in the last furlong and wore Zirl down. The latter outbroke her company and forced the pace throughout and although the route was a trifle too far she hung on well under a hard drive. Blue and Orange had no mishaps and was within striking distance all the way, but lacked speed to come on in the stretch. Ben Howard was a contender to the final furlong, where he weakened. The race was a poor one for him. Brisk ran poorly. Overweights Ben Howard, 2 pounds; Cloche dOr, 4; Arrah Gowan, 1. Slidell, show, 6 to 5. Zirl, show, 7 to 5. Blue and Orange, show, out. Won easily; second the same. ; Judge showed the most speed, but it was a poor field and he was all out at the end. List- away was best and would have won with capable handling, was off poorly and messed about all the way, but finished fast. M. Theo will do better. She was high in flesh and needs a ; race or two to fit her. She showed speed, but condition told and she was tiring fast at the end. Transmigration would have been third in a few more strides. Hoofbeat is seem- ; ingly a bad one. Scratched 38039 Fortunehunter, 107. ; Overweights Listaway, 1 pound; Swivit, 3. ; Judge, show, out. Listaway, show, evens. M. Theo, show, 7 to 5. ! He was taken around the field on the turn and was carried very wide by Flying Buttress while turning into the stretch, but wore the latter down in the stretch run under the whip and was all out at the end. Flying Buttress will be worth remembering, is fit and possesses a rare turn of speed. Anna Daly will win in poorer company and ran a fair race. No show betting on first three. Winner Br. c, by Waterlevel Joyeuse trained by J. W. McAvoy. Went to post at 4:25. At post 4 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second handily. Benduro was capably handled throughout. Gannon put up a strong finish and the colt was going away at the end, but had to be hard ridden to get up. Flo Russell displayed fine speed, but could not maintain it through the distance. Cherubim got off poorly and made up a lot of ground. The effort was too much and she tired in the final furlong, but her race was a good one. Prancer closed a big gap from a poor beginning. Turnpike broke well in motion and displayed plenty of speed, but was swerving badly at the end under a drive. Sir Christopher ran a good race, stood a long stretch drive and outgamed Lady Radnor in the final strides. The latter was well handled throughout and finished stoutly. Right and True weakened after racing well for five furlongs. Moderator was in many pockets. Gwynne ran well for a half mile. Scratched 38056Examiner, 105; 38040 Jove, 99; 37965 Showman, 96. Won easily; second driving. , There was no fast pace in the race and the field went wide on all turns. Athelroy performed . much better in the soft slow going than he did in the mud, had the race in hand all L the way and could have won farther off. H. L. Coleman was in front on sufferance, but t ran a good race for his first out this year and should improve. Bar Le Due is worth remembering. He was weakly handled throughout and would have been a keen contender : with good handling. Circus was in behind the other horses all the way. It was not his 3 race.
