Pen Howard broke fast and showed the most speed throughout and Walsh picked his going in the middle of the track and stayed there to the finish. The colt was tiring at the end, but Walsh outrode the others and put up a good whipping finish. Alado ran in the deep going next to the rail all the way and Burton could not help him any in the final drive. JNuptial finished fast and would have been second in a few more strides. Jove is rouding to, was at home in the going, was a contender all the way and hung on well at the end. Lord Advocate needs a stronger rider. Rough Rider received a poor start. Breaker ran a bad race. Peter Paul was best and best in the going; but Burns could hardly keep him straight in the final furlong and he stumbled twice. Petunia finished with a rush next to the outside rail after having been outrun in the first part of the race. Spring was In next to the rail all the way and tired from the deep going. Reverberate got off poorly and an effort to get up weakened her. Duncan received a poor start. Scratched 38091 Oriza, 112; 38111 Vibrator, 110. Peter Paul, show, out. Petunia, show, 1 to 3. Gibson Light was the best in the going and was skillfully handled all the way. Mara kept him in the middle of the course and easily drew away in the stretch. Ben Battle ran a fine race for a mile and a quarter and was a sharp contender for that distance, but tired in the stretch. Willard J. fenced well, but was not up to the route and swerved badly all through the final furlong. Haversack could not keep up. Dick Hasse is a poor jumper. Scratched 38038 Concertina, 132. Won driving; second easily. Haack rode a well judged race on the winner and that won for her. At home in the going, Gloriosa tried to race with Mrs. Frank Foster in the first part of the trip, but the latter had too much speed and Haack reserved his mount for a final effort, came fast in the final furlong and headed Mrs. Frank Foster when a sixteenth from home. She tired then and had to be hard ridden to hold her advantage. Mrs Frank Foster was made too much use of on the turns. Redfern made his run too soon and the effort used her up, she having nothing left when Gloriosa challenged. Sir Christopher ran a good race for nearly five furlongs. Flying Buttress dislikes mud and is best on a hard fast track. Scratched 38056 Directum, 117; 38108JIllyria, 108; 38054sBlue and Orange, 101; 38076s Shrine, 96. Overweights Gloriosa, 1 pound. At the weights Shrine outclassed her company and should have won more easily, but was sore and Redfern took no chances, whipping her all through the last furlong. Merriment made up a lot of ground and finished fast under a hustling ride and outgamed Midnight Chimes. The latter did not show as much early speed as usual. Pride of Galore ran well to the stretch, but quit when caught. Mystic Belle closed a big gap under a poor ride. Knight of the Garter got off flying, displayed a great flight of speed, but was all out and doing his best at the end. Benckart went wide- on all the turns and made up ground in the stretch, but could not catch the leader. H. L. Coleman weakened in the final drive after performing well for seven furlongs. Dark Planet began slowly arid "did not seem able to extend himself in the going although it has heretofore been his strong suit.
