Nearest was easily best. She was interfered with at the start and went around the leaders at the far turn, caught Daddy Bender tiring at the end and was going away in the last fifty yards. Daddy Bender was well ridden and had no mishaps, saved ground all the way and was under a hard drive in the stretch. Insolence was doing her best throughout. Little Duchess II. showed much early speed, but tired as if short. Flaneur ran well to the stretch. Georgia Gardner made up ground in the last half. Bummer II. was well ridden, came through next to the inside rail at the turn into the homestretch and outgamed Autumn Leaves when it came to a hard drive. The latter was used up in racing Joe Martin to defeat in the first half and tired when called on strongly. Optional was in a pocket in the run down the backstretch and had to go around the field on the outside to get up and came wide into the homestretch. Joe Martin was at home in the going and showed great early speed, but tired in the stretch. Ohnet finished going fast. Overweights Optional, 4 pounds; Ohnet, 3; Sister Kate n., 2; Water Edge, 4$. Thane outclassed his field, raced Scotch Plaid to retirement in the first half and came away without urging and was only cantering at the end. Rankin was crowded out of it while rounding the first turn, but closed a big gap, went around his field at the turn into the homestretch and finished going fast. Claude showed improvement in speed today and was well ridden. Daly got him off well in motion and rated him along in behind Judge Himes for the first five furlongs and went to the front without much effort while rounding the far turn and coming away in the stretch run, was only cantering at the end. Farmer Jim was outfooted in the first half, but closed a big gap and finished going fast. Rightful was hustled along from the start, but his weight seemed to anchor him. He did his best and had no mishaps. Judge Himes ran well to the stretch where he tired badly. Banter was under a drive from the start and did not seem to like the going. Scratched Treacy, 122. Mrs. Grannan showed the most early speed, but tired under pressure in the last fifty yards. Sambo lumbered along all the way and was under a drive all through the last quarter. Emir closed a big gap and finished very fast. Somersault dropped out of it after going a good half. Dandie Belle quit in the stretch.
