The race was a gift for Plantagenet, which got off well in motion and was eased up at the end. King B. liked the going, ran a good race and might have been closer to the winner had Waterbury ridden him out. Alhambra, off poorly, made up ground under a drive from the stretch turn and outlasted Drop oRye in the final sixteenth. The latter did not seem to be able to extend himself freely. Gannon rode a good race on the winner, avoided the early pace and picked his going. His mount finished fast through the stretch and catching Flo Russell tiring was going away at the end. John Nevin gained ground in the last furlong, but was all out and driving bard to beat Flo Russell. The latter is speedy, but a quitter. Fustian did. not run to expectations and tired after going nearly three-eighths. Walbrook came fast on the stretch turn, but tired in the stretch. Overweights Fustian, 1 pound. He had to be hustled to catch Lida Woodlands, but when he did was under restraint the rest of the way. Lida Woodlands was tiring fast at the end, but showed speed and fenced in good style. Arius put up a poor race for him. Decameron stumbled on the flat and unseated Pyle. He was going well at the time. Scratched 36426 Walter Cleary, 159. Gum Honey, show, out. Went to post at 4:20. At post 1 minute. Start bad. Won driving; second easily. Listaway ran his race and scored a lucky victory as TheBrown Monarch was easily the best today and should have won. He was practically left at the post, but made up ground gradually and caught Listaway when a furlong from home and headed him for a couple of strides, but tired and was outgamed in a hard ride to the finish. Musical Slipper got off poorly and was easily best, took the outside all the way and was only cantering at the end. Sir Christopher liked the going and displayed speed, but his weight anchored him in the stretch. Mark Cheek is high in flesh and short and tired badly. Concertina did not show much speed. Alma Girl was well handled throughout, came fast in the stretch and Wilkerson rode a vigorous finish. Pearl Diver was slowly gaining at the end after being used too much wearing Charmel down and would have won in a few more strides. Benefit was hard ridden all the way and tired after going six furlongs. Charmel was made too much use of in the first part of the race and could not last the journey. Michaelmas ran well for three-quarters. Overweights Benefit, 1 pound; Charmel, 1; Michaelmas, 5. Alma Girl, show, 7 to 10. Pearl Diver, show, 3 to 5. Benefit, show, 1 to 2.
