"Won handily; second easily Alflo was easily best, raced Joe Buckley to defeat in the first half and came away without much effort in the stretch run. Joe Buckley had to be hard ridden to stall off Insolence. The latter began slowly, but closed a big gap and finished fast. The Boston was under restraint for the first half, but quit when called on. Claremont raced Nettie E. to exhaustion in the first three furlongs and drew away from the others fast in the last hundred yards. Bird Pond began slowly and Helgesen had her all over the track, but she came fast at the end and got second place in the last few strides. Lady Free Knight saved ground all the way, but tired in the stretch run. Phelan was carried wide at the turn into the homestretch and finished in the middle of the track. Mingore was always outrun. Rankin was never under hard pressure, was at home in the going, came again at the turn into the homestretch when Major Tenny challenged and had plenty left at the finish. Co-burn took Major Tenny back in the first quarter, moved up to Rankin while rounding the far turn, dropped back at the furlong post and the horse came again when Coburn went to the whip. "Winkfield placed Olefiarit for the first half and moved up to Sarah Maxim while rounding the far turn, was on even terms with her at the furlong post and the pair fought it out sharply to the end and Winkfield outrode Bullman. Sarah Maxim ran under a stiff pull for the first half and appeared like an easy winner at the turn into the homestretch, but was tiring all through the last furlong. Coburn had Favonius under a choking pull for the first half and had to go around his field to get to the front, had him under a hard drive all of the last furlong, caught Henry Burt tiring at the end and got up in the last stride. There was a jam at the first turn and Favonius was jumped on and cut down and ran a game race under the circumstances. Henry N Burt ran to his best form and will be hard to beat from now on. Scotch Plaid outgamed Autumn Leaves in the stretch run. The latter was crowded back at the first turn. Scratched 37598 Old Hutch, 111; 382082Elsie L., 106; 38136 Arachne, 99. OHagen got caught in a jam at the start and was knocked back, but wore the leaders down while rounding the far turn, caught Miss Hume tiring in the last sixteenth and was going away at the end. John Coulter ran his best race. Miss Hume showed much early speed, but could not last the journey. Joe Martin was cut off at the turn out of the backstretch and his rider had to pull up.
