Chappie found his speed suddenly, improved his position steadily and finished with a rush and won going away. Carilee, away poorly, displayed great speed in taking the lead in the first half and held on gamely at the end. Nullah is consistent and finished like a whirlwind after being carried wide on the stretch turn. Stirling Towers went extra well at the weights. Jerid forced the pace and only failed in the last fifty yards. Assessment was going great guns at the end. Scratched— 38480 Sim W., 98; 38480 Cherries, 91. Corrected weights — Nullah, 96. Matt Hogan, fresh and good, outclassed the field, led throughout and outstayed Hainault after a long stretch drive. The latter went wide on the turns and ran in suddenly Improved form. Onyx n., badly ridden and shuffled back on the turn, came through next to the rail, when a furlong out loomed up dangrously, but tired badly at the end. Hellas, away poorly, raced a remarkably fast middle half and Is worth remembering. Jim Hale and Quiz both quit early. Overweights — Matt Hogan, 1 pound. Matt Hogan, show, 2 to 5. Won driving; second easily Nugget quickly raced into a contending position and trailed Amasa to the stretch, where he wore him down, getting up in the last stride. The latter, away in his stride, made the running throughout and his rider was caught napping at the end. St. Phillipina, away poorly, worked a rough journey in the first half, was again knocked back on the far turn and closed a great gap afterwards and was easily best. The Miller was closing up fast Maresa tired under her weight, but was a prominent contender. Flamero was going very-fast in the last quarter. Possart went unexpectedly well. The latter took up the running after going the first mile and held sway to the stretch turn, where she went hopelessly wide, but was making up ground very fast at the end and should have won. Expedient came fast at the end from a rear position. Tufts was interfered with when Learoyd fell and ran a game race. Dr. Boyle got away badly, but gradually improved his position and closed a tremendous gap when straightened away in the last quarter, just getting up In the last stride Eonic, suddenly improved, followed the fast pace closely, rushed into a long lead on the stretch turn and seemed a sure winner, but tired in the deep going next to the rail Bill Massie was a prominent contender throughout and fought out a game finish. The Fretter ran a dull race. Mocorito beat the barrier, but failed to take advantage of it and tried waiting tactics in front with poor results. Won handily; second easily Peter J. dropped in behind the two pacemakers and waited to the stretch, where he flashed into the lead in a jiffy when called upon, but was mildly driving to retain his advantage E. M. Brattain forced a terrific pace and lost ground on the stretch turn, but fought out a remarkably game finish. Annie Max went around the field and was closing up fast at the end. Fort Wayne quit after racing a fast half. Kenilworth has lost his true form and will hardly do this season. Tower of Candles ran a poor race and can do better. Peter J., show, evens. E. M.
