St. Winifride got away in her stride and led unextended throughout and far outclassed the field. Blissful was shuffled back in the first quarter, but was closing up like a cyclone at the end. Honeysuckle also closed a tremendous gap. Parting Jennie went well and is worth remembering. Pure Dale made up fifteen lengths in the last half. Maud Sherwood failed to stay and was evidently short. Constanza is steadily improving and possessed of brilliant speed, forced the pace for three furlongs and was tiring at the end and should improve. Metlakatla ran a good race and finished fast and gamely. Wiggins II. went wide on the turn and was finishing well, but was sore in her preliminary. Ethel Abbott ran away before the race and her race was unexpectedly jrood Samar was bearing out on the turns and badly handled. Scratched— Nettie K., 110. Overweights — Wiggins IL, 4 pounds. Rose of May, steadily improving, came from a long way back in the stretch and proved the best stayer. Mountebank beat the barrier and but for a wide stretch turn and swerving under a poor ride would have won and was best . Cousin Carrie held on unexpectedly well. Dollie Wiethoff tired in the stretch after following the fast early pace closely. Berendos closed a gap. Sly was beaten on her merits. St. Phillipina failed to stay. Winner— Ch. h, by Ducat— Rose of Magenta trained by A. Wilson. Went to post at 3:32. At post .2 minutes. Start bad. Won driving; second easily. Byron Rose was lucky at the start and had clear sailing, ran well within himself to the stretch where, although swerving all over the track, he -wore the leaders down and was evidently best at the weights, as he was handicapped by an incompetent jockey. Mocorito, lucky and skillfully reserved m behind the pacemakers, made an improved showing in the stretch and her rider was probably napping at the end. Kenilworth sustained his speed well and is improving. Grail got away poorly and was repeatedly interfered with. Ishtar forced the pace for seven furlongs and was badly crowded by the winner in the stretch was a trifle short and is very good. Horatius was nearly left, closed a tremendous gap and was probably unlucky to lose. Fossil can do much better. Byron Rose, show, 8 to 5. Mocorito, show, 8 to 5. Kenilworth, show, 8 to 5.
