Winkfield did not hurry Wainamoinen in the first part of the race, but waited until in the last quarter before making his move, then wore Whiskey King down and got up in the last few strides. Whiskey King was used up in chasing Harlem Lane and the latter carried him wide at the turn into the homestretch. Skilful had no chance from where he got off and Booker used good judgment in not persevering with him. Harlem Lane showed a great burst of speed, but tired and was eased up. Prince of Pilsen broke well in motion, showed a lot of speed and raced Prince Silverwings to subjection in the first quarter and drew away without urging in the stretch run. The latter had no mishaps and ran well, but he is probably overrated. Sol Smith tired in the last furlong and was probably a bit short. Barney Dreyfuss went wide on the turn into the homestretch. Booker waited with Judge Himes until well in the last quarter before making a move, came through on the inside at the turn into the homestretch, caught Early tiring -and after a sharp struggle was going: away at the finish. Winkfield made his run too soon with Early and madG up a lot of ground while rounding the far turn and had nothing left when Judge Himes challenged strongly. Bourbon finished well and outgamed Bad News when in the final drive. Woodlake quit badly after going a good half. Treacy was never a contender.
