Seminole trailed for half the journey, and being saved while going up the hill on the back-stretch made good with a winning stretch run and scored a lucky victory. Gould was excessively used early in the race and tired and was swerving in the stretch run. Ohnet, after forcing the pace for nine furlongs, was crowded against the fence on the inside losing a half dozen lengths, but recovered ground rapidly at the end. McGrathiana Prince, from a rearward position on the backstretch, was raced up the hill into prominence and was tiring and swerving in the last quarter. Big Gun was best and drew clear of the field, an apparent easy winner, at the last hurdle, where he fell. Scratched— 33936 Arian, 141. - Overweights — Ben Battle, 3 pounds. ....... Winner — B. c. by Ben Strome — Henrietta trained by T. E. Healey. Went to post at 3:00. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won handily; second easily. , Highlander looked a trifle high, but far outclassed his field, forced the early pace, drawing clear at the half and thereafter was alternately easing up and hand ridden and nearly all out at the end to beat the fast coming Minotaur. The latter appeared unable to get out of close quarters until in the last furlong, when he finished fast under the whip and ran a game race. Andrattus followed the winners pace closely for five furlongs, then went wide on the stretch turn losing much ground, but gamely disposed of the others after a long stretch drive. Pittacus, poorly ridden and improving his position in the last half, was going fast at the end. Sister Juliet was poorly handled and well up at the finish. Mercer displayed a good turn of speed, but failed to stay and was probably short. Scratched— 38833 Satire, 115; 38522 Attila, 106. Overweights — Merry Maker, i pound. Highlander, show, 1 to 2. Ingold made the running well in hand to the stretch, where he came away with a rush ap- , parently an easy winner, but was unexpectedly driving hard at the end and was probably short. Brigand, away poorly, closed a big gap and finished with a rush and was probably best today. Love Note outran all but the winner for the first six furlongs, but was tiring . and swerving badly at the end and should be improved by the race. Akela was making up ground fast at the end. Tristesse overcame a lot of interference in the first furlong and on the stretch turn and her effort was a good one. Dauphin is a- good looker and Is reported to have worked fast and should improve greatly. Ink is also worth remembering. Contusion fell lame while running well and is probably broken down. Highball received a lucky start and After a long drive to retain the lead he came away fast in the final sixteenth. Grenada was a prominent contender throughout and his race was a good one. Luxembourg was closing up fast at the end and probably unlucky to lose second place. Sir Walt, Anyway and Dolly Spanker ran well and finished close up. The others were beaten off and pulling up. Dolly Spanker is a grand looker and appeared out of place in such a short sprint, but closed a tremendous gap from a bad start and was running faster than the leaders at the end. Carbuncle trailed next to the rail to the stretch where he finished fast under a vigorous ride, outstaying Stevedore after a long drive. The latter from a poor start quickly raced into a long and apparently winning lead, and although tiring after ill-timed and excessive early use, fought out the issue unexpectedly gamely. Flying Buttress, which went the longest way around on the turns, was overhauling the leaders at the end and ran an extra good race. Paul Clifford followed the fast pace closely for six furlongs and ran in improved form. Duelist retired early in the race. Scratched— 388063Locket, 118; 38833 Satire, 114. Carbuncle, show, out. Winner— Ch. c, by Knight of Ellerslie — Flash in the Pan trained by H. T. Griffin. Went to post at 4:50. At post 3 minutes. Start bad. Won driving; second thesame. Embarrassment, away in the rear division, steadily improved his position and a lucky opening in the stretch enabled him when with clear saling to overhaul and pass Lord Advocate in the last fifty, yards. The latter was always a prominent contender and when a furlong out assumed command and his rider was probably caught napping right at the end by the winner. Knight of the Garter rushed into the lead early, but fell away when straightened for the finish. Showman was a good horse badly messed about. Remorse looked high in flesh and ran as if short and can do much better. Past worked through a rough journey under a bad ride. Early Eve closed a tremendous gap. Agnes D. looked far from fit and will improve. Embarrassment, show, 6 to 5. Lord Advocate, show, 7 to 1. Knight of the Garter, show, 5 to 1: Remorse, show, 4 to 5. Pageant, show, 4 to 5.
