St. Daniel got off well, showed fine speed, won all the way and was best. St. Jude also ran well and was closing up gamely at the end and Burns outfinished Mathews. General Prig was a prominent contender throughout and was probably unlucky to lose second place. Wealth ran a game race, but is evidently not within many pounds of her best form. The others were beaten off. St. Daniel, show, 1 to 2. St. Jude, show, 7 to 10. General Prig, show, 4 to 1. Wealth, show, evens. Won easily;, second driving. Mimosa cut up while at the post and unseated her rider, but was caught when half way home. In spite of getting away flatfooted she almost instantly took a slight lead, which she retained under restraint coming away like a flash when she gained the level stretch in the last furlong. She is a speed marvel and looks it and was much the best. Aristocracy improved his position steadily from a poor start and finished like a good one. His sore preliminary makes his race particularly notable. Jocund is fast and stood a long and trying stretch drive in game fashion. Golden Mineral went to the post in a gingerly manner and his getting away poorly was due to soreness. He closed a tremendous gap and was running fastest of all at the end excepting the winner. Rowena was in close quarters all of the last quarter and gaining at the end. Yellow Hammer fell away after meeting much crowding when a furlong out. Agnes Brennan quit after following the winners pace closely for a half mile. Tim Sullivan can probably do better. Mimosa, show, 4 to 5. Aristocracy, show, 3 to 1. Jocund, show, 2 to 1. Winner— B. h, by Sir Dixon— Bonnie Blue H. trained by F. Weir. Went to post at 3:35. At post 1 minute. Start bad. Won pulled up; second easily. Blues led unextended throughout and finished in a hack canter. He far outclassed the field, displayed a phenomenal turn of speed and is probably better than ever. Young Henry was caught in the barrier at the start and at once proceeded to close the half dozen lengths like a good racehorse, getting on even terms with the field when a furlong from the finish and came away in the final effort like a shot. Homestead moved up fast when straightened for home, but was unable to sustain his burst of speed long. Dr. Saylor displayed a fine turn of speed, which was with bad judgment expended early. Elsie L. held on well. Clarion went after the winner early in the race and is a fast colt that tired badly in the final furlong. Minotaur got away running and Fuller made the most of his advantage, saved ground on all turns and gained a head victory after a long and well sustained stretch drive. Ingold closed a big gap from a bad start, racing on the outside throughout and closing up fast at the end was best. Durazzo worked through a rough journey and went wide on the stretch turn and was crowded over on the winners heels in the last fifty yards and was pulled up. Red Knight, interfered with early, made up a lot of ground and was going fast at the end. Blue and Orange was also running on at the end. Foxy Kane tired in the stretch run and was probably short. Royal was choked back in the first part and crowded back on the far turn, then went around the field and in a whipping finish just got up in time. New York was lucky in being permitted to make his own running with the field waiting behind him, and nearly succeeded in making a runaway race of it and he is improved in staying. Extinguisher finished very fast. So also did Surmise. Luke Ward failed to stay. Scratched— 388573Knight of the Garter, 114; 38615Grand Opera, 111. Royal, show, out. New York, show, 2 to 5. Won driving; second the same. Hunter Raine had a big pull in the weights and although he was outrun early he came fast and gamely in the stretch and was under a drive when a furlong from home, but out-gamed the others in the run to the finish. Numeral was waited with to the stretch, where he came with a rush when opposite the field stand, but tired in a hard drive. Grand Opera is a grand colt, made his own pace and fought out the finish gamely, seenod beaten when a quarter from home where he was under a drive, but hung on to the end, gave the others big lumps of weight and will easily beat them on even terms Scratched— 389072Zoroaster, 109; 388573Knight-of the Garter, 95.
