Time, 2:481. Winner — B. g, by St. Andrew — Marian trained by G. Tompkins. Went to post at 2:30. At post 5 minutes. Start good. Won in a canter; second easily. Arian indulged Ohnet with the lead until straightened out on the long incline home, where he cantered to the front winning impressively at the end. Ohnet was much the best of the others even after having speeded a half mile in a false break and is a much improved horse, but was not equal to conceding the weight set to the winner. Draughtsman as easily held third position from start to finish and in soft going should give a good account of himself. Seminole displayed improved speed- todayafter getting* away pooily. -He "failed, however, in the last sixteenth and probably sulked and is a bad horse. Imperious went half the journey well, but lost too much ground at the hurdle on the backstretch to ever get into contention again. Corrected weights — Seminole, 149. Overweights — Victor, 5 pounds. Hazelwood showed fine speed and outstayed Dimple after a long level stretch drive and Adams clearly outfinished ONeil. The 0,000 filly drew clear in the last furlong and seemed like the winner, but unexpectedly succumbed in her last stride or two. Monadnock, which had been gamely striving for the lead from Dimple, tired only at the very end. Tepee also went well. Scratched— 388782Nameoki, 110. Overweights — Tepee, 2 pounds. Winner — Br. c, by Clifford — Garoga trained by J. L. McGinnis. Went to post at 3:30. At post 3 minutes. Start straggling. Won easily; second the same. Tribes Hill is steadily improving and from a lucky start practically forced the pace throughout, coming away fast in the last furlong. Baikal displayed a superior turn of speed and is a good looker. The race was confined throughout to the first two. Syrlin, away last, raced wide around the big field to the stretch, where he swerved over to the rail and was pocketed for another furlong. He was pulled up repeatedly and finished fast under a very bad ride and must have been much the best. He is reported to have pulled up lame in recent trials, but gave no evidence of it, although his near foreleg was heavily bandaged. Mor-okanta, best in mud, made a fair showing and was only beaten out for third place in the last stride. Scoffer was interfered with on the stretch turn and was gaining fast at the end. Mary Worth, in good form, but probably short, was prominent for six furlongs. Agnes D closed a big gap. Scratched— 3592S Bonus, 110; 38882 Petit Bleu, S8. Start straggling. Won driving; second easily. Rosetints victory "was a brilliant one. She forced a terrific pace throughout breaking the track record and appeared to be winning very easily when a furlong out, but was brought to a hard drive to beat Lux Casta. The latter, away poorly, was forced to undue early exertion to race into a contending position and closed up suddenly with an unexpected rush, but could never quite get up, yet ran Ka remarkable race at the weights. Lady Uncas held on in improved fashion and was a lucky third. Extinguisher, evidently a slow beginner, commenced to overhaul the leaders very fast when straightened for home. Sergeant, evi-1 dently short, was crowded to the rail in the first quarter and hopelessly pocketed. With clear sailing in the stretch he loomed up a dangerous contender, but tired right at the end and should improve vastly. Royal and Clarion tired and quit in the stretch, but got away poorly. Winner — Ch. c, by Henry of Navarre — Yseult trained by J. E. Madden. Went to post at 4:30. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won in a canter; second driving. Yardarm far outclassed the field, but had to be much the best to win. He was choked and messed about and repeatedly interfered with, but in spite of an incompetent ride he overcame it all and with clear sailing in the last furlong came away from his field like a flash. Young Henry trailed the others to the stretch, where he wore them down one by one and was an easing up second. Dr. Saylor, always a prominent contender, appeared like having a winning lead for second place at the end of seven furlongs. Illyria made the pace to the stretch only on sufferance. New York was with great difficulty restrained and the choking he got exhausted him. Sprinting is, however, his game. Hunter Raine followed Carbuncle to the stretch, where he gradually wore him down, winning going away and at the weights was best. Carbuncle made the early running at a slow pace and was decisively outrun down the hill by the winner. He stuck to his work gamely, but showed signs of failing in front for the first time. McWilliams moved up fast when a furlong out, but was outclassed. Carroll D. retired early and was prominent only while the pace was slow. 1 Scratched— 38955 Andy Williams, 126.
