Nellie Waddell ran Never Fret into early submission and then came away as her rider pleased. Lucien Appleby was easily the best of the others. He was given an easy ride all through the last eighth and appeared to be on keen edge. Mayor Johnson showed sudden improvement. He finished going fast and bears watching from now on. Never Fret showed speed, but maintained it for only four and a half furlongs. The others were never serious contenders. Pirate easily wore down Meran in the last sixteenth and was going away at the end. The latter showed speed, but tired fast when challenged by the winner a furlong out. Nimble Nag finished going fast. Soothsayer came with a rush at the end and was much the best of the others. Dan McKenna made up ground fast in the last quarter and finished going fast. Sarah Maxim tired fast when the pinch came. Robbins on the latter appeared to make his run too soon, but even at that Gregor K. was much the best. Rolling Boer gradually wore down Thane in the last eighth and finished going fast. Gin Spray beiran slowly but closed up fast in the final quarter and was fast wearing down Urchin in , the closing strides. Prince Webb had enough after running well for a mile. Dutch Carter was badly cut off at the head of the stretch while running in a good position. This mishap completely threw him out of the race. Compass, show, 4 to 5. Urchin, show, 2 to 1.
