Bonner avoided the early pace and never made a move until in the last quarter, then caught the leaders tiring in the stretch run and came away cantering at the end. Phosphorus was used up chasing Eufalla in the first part of the race and tired when it came to a hard drive. North Wind made up a lot of ground, but came wide at the turn for home. Eufalla and Lampshade tired and quit badly. Overweights — North Wind, 2 pounds; Owen Moore, 5; Daisy Hawthorne, 3. Goo Goo, show, 4 to 5. Phosphorus, show, 6 to 1. North Wind, show, 3 to 2. Wenrick caught the leaders tiring in the stretch run, finished fast and Avas going away at the end. Dr. Cartledge showed speed, but tired when the pinch came, was probably a bit short and the race should improve him. Requisite got away tangled up, closed up a big gap and ran a winning race. Henry Luehrmann Jr. quit when it came to a drive. So did Judge Luthers. Scratched— Iole, 103. Wenrick, show, 4 to 5. Dr. Cartledge, show, 4 to 1. Requisite, show, out. QQTYn THIRD RACE— Short Course. Islip was never dangerous. The Geezer bolted at the tarn out of the field when going the first time around. Mike Rice was given an easy ride. Overweights — Pat My Boy, 5 pounds; The Geezer, 4. AVon driving; second easily Bonner avoided the early pace with Antolee. caught Governor Sayres at the sixteenth post and outgamed him in a sharp drive. Governor Sayres was used too much in racing Little Gem to subjection in the first half and had nothing left when strongly challenged Bean closed a big gap and just managed to get up in time to beat out Little Gem. The latter showed much early speed, but tired. Oconee looked big when going to the post. Ed L ran poorly. Tufts had to go around his field to get up causrht Flaneur tiring and outgamed him when it came to a hard drive. His weight told on the latter in the last quarter and he tired, but held on gamely. The Bronze Demon finished very fast and was wearing the leaders down at the end. Jake Greenberg quit badly. Herodiade pulled up lame. John J. Regan can do better.
