Frank Bell beat the gate by four lengths, but was taken back to his field and then came away from two tired horses at the finish as though they were tied. Father Wentker ran to his best form. Sardian got away none too well, was rushed through the field at the half mile post and used up in chasing the winner. Deerhunter ran a winning race after getting away tangled up. Cressida ran a dull race. Marchioness showed early speed. Chickasha ran in improved form. Dotty Shute, show, 8 to 5. Sardian, show, 4 to 5. Deerhunter, show, 2 to 5. Won easily; second driving Virgie dOr got away well in her stride, avoided all the interference on the first turn had clear sailing the rest of the way and won going away from her field. Pirateer was all but knocked down by Lunar at the start and Pirateer and Edgardo then had a bumping match but the former got clear, ran an excellent race and finished fast. Lunar unseated Troxler and again nearly unhorsed him by throwing her head up unexpectedly at the start and her race can hardly be said to have been a true run one.
