Oconee came around the leaders at the turn into the homestretch, finished fast and out-gamed Vogue in the final drive. The latter tired in the last dozen yards, but saved ground all the way and was well ridden. Sweet Charity was off well in motion and showed early speed,- but tired when the final drive came. Governor Sayres had no mishaps and probably did not like the lumpy track. Joe Buckley ran away six furlongs while on his way to the post and was eased up after the start. Laura Ireland caught Princess Lucille tiring in the last sixteenth. The latter showed speed, but tired when strongly called on. Ogawais performance was in marked contrast to his last previous race, but the going may have been unfavorable to him. Overweights — Princess Lucille, 3 pounds; Freeborn, 2. At post 11 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Bernays raced George Gibbs and Gold Bell to defeat in the first six furlongs and drew away with speed in reserve at the end. Gold Bell was well ridden and ran his race. Reservation made up a lot of ground while rounding the far turn, but tired when called on in the stretch run. Postmaster Wright and Bonnie Burr were on the outside for the entire trip. They closed a big gap in the last half and ran good races. La Gro ran well to the stretch and was eased up when beaten. Lonsdale laid in behind Paris until well into the homestretch and OConnor never made a move with him until he saw Marshal Ney coming, then called on him and was going away at the end. Marshal Ney ran a good race, came wide at the turn into the homestretch and finished fast. Paris showed the most early speed, but tired at the end. Batts ran the best race he has shown thus far.
