Broodier was well off in a very bad start, passed the leaders when his rider was ready and won eased up. Saline was lucky and off well and was tiring at the end. Armand is a good looker, began slowly, closed up a lot of ground and might have won with an even break. Bendara finished well in the heaviest going. Edna Kenner tired under a weak ride. Mistie ran a fine race from where she got off. Early Regent showed early speed, but tired badly. Scratched— 39158 Vestry, 103; 39110 Shot Proof, 86. Won easily; second handily. Pipe Dreams revelled in the going and won in the most impressive manner after getting off badly. Pinky B. was also at home in the going and ran a good race. Sweet Myrtle got away all tangled up, but ran like a real mudlark and closed a big gap in the stretch. Lona S. had no mishaps. Witchcraft ran a good race from a poor start. Ann Dear ran out as usual. Dr. Carrick was well handled and was best in the mud and simply ran away from the others. Countess Clara, allowed to fall out of it at the half mile, came again in the stretch and closed up with great gameness. Fon Spray displayed surprising improvement under a good ride. Won easily; second driving. Kindred broke with a tremendous burst of speed, quickly opening up a gap, easily kept the lead throughout and was going away at the end. Maltster was in the deep going next to the rail, was held in close quarters for a half and tired at the end. Lady Strathmore seems to have developed a liking for mud. She closed up a lot of ground and would have been second in another stride. Kaffir was cut off at the three-eighths and taken sharply back. This lost him ten lengths. Father Wentker, Helen Print and J. Sidney Walker do not like mud. Scratched— 39246 Louis Wagner, 103; 392403Hilee, 102. Overweights — Kindred, 3 pounds. Kindred, show, 8 to 5. Maltster, show, out. Alice Turner ran in improved form under good handling, but tired when challenged by W. B. Gates in the last sixteenth. Josie F., never of any acount in the mud last year, ran a good race in it today and was worked out for the Club Members Handicap.
