Leota and Kohnwreath fought it out all through the last quarter and Leota came again in the last ten yards and just managed, to get up in time. Kohnwreath tired when the pinch came, but seemed like a sure winner at the furlong post. Locust Blossom was going the fastest of the field at the end and was catching the leaders at every stride. Infallible beat the barrier and had every advantage, but quit badly. Mr. Dooley got caught in a jam and was crowded back. Overweights — Kohnwreath, 2 pounds. Leota, show, 6 to 1. Henry Luehrmann Jr. ran in much improved form, showed much speed and opened up a winning lead while rounding the far turn and was only cantering at the end. Wenrick finished well and outgamed Dr. Cartledge when it came to a drive. The latter was tiring and quit when the pinch came. Silver Thistle was bumped into at the start and crowded out of it. The colt appeared high in flesh when going to the post and the race should improve him. Sailors Dream was under a hard drive all of the last furlong and was tiring in the last sixteenth. Luigart closed a big gap while rounding the far turn, finished on the outside and was catching the leaders at every stride. Miss Eon and John C. King showed early speed. Paris showed improvement and the most speed for the entire trip, raced Lonsdale to exhaustion in the first half and had enough in reserve to stall off a challenge from Marshal Ney. The latter began slowly, but wore his field down while rounding the far turn, came through on the inside at the turn into the homestretch and was bumped into and interfered with at the furlong post, came fast, but tired in the last dozen yards. Proceeds did his best and had no mishaps. Batts closed a big gap. The weight told on Lonsdale and he quit badly. Major Pelham tired and quit in the stretch, and so did Ed Tierney.
