His race was a most impressive one. Bummer H. was doing his best at all stages. Autolight was under restraint for most of the journey and could have gone to the front at any time during the first six furlongs, but tired at the end. First Chord led on sufferance, but still ran a good race. Tancred was virtually left. Overweights — Bummer n., 4 pounds; First Chord, 5. Fore and Aft, show, out. Bummer II., show, 2, to 1." The first three came to the mark very close together after fighting it out all through the homestretch. There was some crowding and bumping, but it had no effect on the result. Sly Boots improved suddenly, showed speed throughout and outgamed Barnacle in the final sixteenth. The latter ran a good race from where he got off. Blackmore was tiring and Bean would have been third in another stride. Premus could never get up. Sly Boots, show, 3 to 1. Barnacle, show, out. Blackmore, show, evens. Premus, show 3 to 5.
