Illyria went to the front when the field straightened for home and won going away. Dean Swift, away poorly, trailed to the stretch turn, where he came through next to the rail in the deep going and finished well, but was handicapped by the going. Allan was a prominent contender throughout and at the end was going well. Sir "Voorhies appeared to be unable to get out of his own way in the early running, but moved up fast on the stretch turn, then tired. Prairie Flower is evidently a fast one, exposed today for the first time, forced .a fast pace for five furlongs and tired at tbe„eDd, but stuck to her work : gamely. - Midnight Chimes w-ent well. Irish Jewel beat the barrier, but was taken back on the first turn and indulged Star and Garter with the lead to the stretch, where he cantered into the lead and finished with plenty in reserve. Orloff rah sluggishly today, appeared unable to keep up for the first six furlongs and Redfern applied the whip at frequent intervals. At the end he unexpectedly outstayed the pacemaker. Star and Garter is evidently of very moderate caliber, swerved into the rail in the deep going in the last furlong and quit badly. Winner— B- c, by Montana— Poesy trained by A. L. Aste. Went to post at 3:25. At post 3 minutes. Start bad. Won driving; second the same. Montana King, after going the first furlong, commenced to improve his position and when the field got fairly straightened out for home he ploughed through the difficult going next to the rail with bull dog resolution and won going away. Cascine was left standing still. He went after his field, however, and on the extreme outside, running by the others as if- they were anchored, got on terms in the stretch and under punishment put up one of the most remarkable exhibition of gameness ever seen, was much the best and could have given his field much weight with an even start. Steelmaker was a prominent contender throughout, shows steady improvement and looks like one of the coming good ones. Tom-cod was always in the front division and held on gamely. Nameoki fell out of the race early and is in bad form. James V., a grand looker and another one of the Improving kind, raced into a good lead when turning into the stretch, but tired badly in the last six- _66T__ll Scratched— 39648 Great Eastern, 107; 396483Dutiful, 107; 39672 Honey Boy, 104; 39575 Miss Shylock, 104. Herbert made the running throughout and stalled off several successive challenges and was unprepared fpr the winner s rush In the last sixteenth, was best and unlucky to lose today. Bon Mot was used too much and moreover OOMTINCHJJgygFTHPAaK, • /£»*____?_ _. BROOKLYN FORM CHART-CONTINUED. was forced into the deep going in the first seven furlongs, and at the end put up a plucky fight. Bonnibert was a prominent contender for the first mile and was favored by the going. Merry Acrobat raced with Herbert for six furlongs and then fell away. Sambo was either outclassed or unable to stride freely in the going as he was always outrun. Scratched— 39718 Africander. 114; 39357Ethics, 98. Winner — Blk. c, by Hermence — Flutter trained by G. Butler. Went to post at 4:25. At post 2 minutes. Start straggling. Won in a canter; second driving. Ink, fiatfooted and crowded at the start, gradually worked his way into a contending position on the outside, was always under a pull and, cantering into a long and winning lead on the stretch turn, finished pulling up. Dark Planet showed sudden improvement, closing up well at the end. Spring Silk, away badly, closed a big gap and was wearing Dark Planet down for second place at the end. Scoffer ran throughout with the starters whip hanging to his tail and it seemed as if he sulked in the last furlong. Royal Pirate was shut off and forced out of his position repeatedly. Sentinel was evidently handicapped by the stiff going. Corrected weights — Spring Silk, 108; Muzio, 101. Overweights— Dark Planet, 1 pound; Royal Pirate. 1. Ink. show, 1 to 3. Winner— Ch. c, by Ornament — Ada IV. trained by T. E. Healy. Went to post at 4:50. At post 3 minutes. Start fair. Won driving; second easily Montreson, evidently a coming crackerjack, from a lucky start forced the pace throughout and finished out the last quarter in true race horse fashion, showing remarkable form for his first essay at racing. Moharib, which has shown high class private trials, but looking still on the big side, ran as if short: He got away well and followed the winners pace closely, but was forced into the deep going and shut off on the turn. Lack of condition told in the final drive and he swerved badly under punishment, although he kept coming. Possession was left standing at the post, but Gannon again set sail after the field and picked the others up one by one, making a phenomenal run in the last three furlongs. Harbor also got away poorly and made up ground, but is evidently of moderate caliber Great Eastern, still green and unfit, raced with the winner for three furlongs and then retired. Trouville closed a tremendous gap. So did Prince of Elm. Sandhurst got away badly. Scratched— 397433Steelmaker, 112. Montreson, show, 4 to 1. Moharib, show, 2 to 5. Possession, show, 3 to 5.
