Pamplona ran his own race without much help, was lucky to get through the field and won going away. He can beat better horses with a good rider up. Lasso finished well and showed some improvement. Faquita showed decided improvement. Alalia hung on longer than usual. Bounteous had a rough trip and closed up very fast through the stretch. Sabinal quit badly. Legation can do much better. Winner— Ch. g, by Sleipner— Sieve trained by R. E. Watkins. Went to post at 3:08: At post 2 minutes. Start good for all but Hugh McGowan. Won handily; second the same. Hugh McGowan got off badly, but circled his field, finished fast and had to be fully extended to trim Mengis. The latter got away in front, but was out-footed in the first part of the race and came with a rush on the outside in the last eighth. Instrument broke well in his stride and led his field into the stretch, then tred. Tom Rowe, hardly ready, ran a fast quarter. 1 Hugh McGowan, show, 7 to 5. Mengis, show, 2 to 1. Won easily; second the same. Miss Crawford bn ke quickly and set her own pace to the last sixteenth where Kilo challenged. The filly started to falter when overhauled, but Booker promptly pulled her together and she won Msily. Kilo ran a good race, but tired at the end after being under keen pressure all tie way. Aules got off badly, was taken around the field, came though next to the rail In the stretch and seemed like the winner until shut off by Jake /Veber. Bengal did his best. Poseur displayed fine speed, but was not ready to run severffurlongs. Howling Dervish ran a winning race from where he got off under a weak ride. Won easily; second the same. Ladas got off -well in his stride, ran Kinloch Park to defeat in the first half and came home alone. Dr. Clark broke from behind his field, was taken the long route, and ran an extra good race considering the impost he had up. Mrs. Wiggs got off all tangled up, but was running fast at the finish, and at the weights was probably best. The weight anchored Kinloch Park. Dotty Shute got away poorly and failed to run her race. Leonid was lucky to get off in front and avoided the crowding on the first turn. He took up the running when Lelia Barr tired, was carefully rated in front and won without great urging. The Messenger got off behind his field and had a rough trip, but was still a good horse at the finish. He would have probably won with an even share of racing luck. Chandoo had no mishaps. Eugenia S. appeared dangerous when an eighth out, but quit under pressure at the end. Kubelik had all kinds of bad luck. Castake also ran a creditable race under difficulties. Lelia Barr ran well to the stretch. Overweights — Lelia Barr, 2 pounds; Require, 2. , Leonid, show, evens. The Messenger, show, evens. Chandoo, show, 2 to 1.
