IRISH LADS CASE. In allowing it to be understood that Irish Lad would almost certainly be sent to Ghicago to run in the American Derby, his owners effectually kept other eastern candidates at home, only to back out themselves when the race was right at hand. Messrs. Whitney and Duryea of course acted strictly within the bounds of their rights as owners, but if they had deliberately set out to injure the Washington Park Clubs big race they could not have very well selected a more efficiently devised course of action. On the whole, their proceedings in the matter, while undoubtedly not so meant, border on thajjT discourtesy and unsportsmanlike
