Never Fret got off flying and simply spreadeagled the field for the first half, but tired and had little left at the finish. Antonius made up ground fast in lhe last quarter and just got up in time to nip Joe Martin on the post. The latter showed his customary turn of speed, but tired fast in the last hundred yards. Best Man made up much ground after turning for home and finished with a rush. Mike Strauss met with no mishaps and ran to his best form. Flaunt was well beaten when turning for home. Algareta ran well for five furlongs and the effort should improve her. The others were never in the hunt. Scratched— 35150 Lute, 109; 39591 Ed Adack, 98. Savable was rated along back of Linguist for the first six furlongs, where he was sent to the front and appeared to be winning easily when a furlong out, but here Dominick rallied Linguist and the colt responded gamely. In the last hundred yards Gray began hand riding Savable, which had enough left to stand off Linguists great challenge in the closing strides. The latter showed great improvement and is certainly of Derby caliber. Judge Himes ran an impressive race. He closed up ground steadily in the last eighth and was probably the freshest of the first three at the finish. Bernays ran a fair race. He made up some ground in the last quarter from a slow beginning and finished stoutly. Gregor K., as usual, tired when the pinch came. Gilfain and Gregor K. worked out an extra three-eighths after passing the wire and all the others but Savable and Bernays extra eighths.
