Courtmaid worked a rough journey gamely, closing up fast at the end. Coruscate, away very badly, closed -a- tremendous gap wiile running ..on the, jextremeQutsir-i ajid was much the best. Gloriosa received a lucky start and was a prominent contender up to the last fifty yards, where she quit after being crowded. Ella Snyder was hemmed in on all sides and buffeted about like a shuttlecock, closing up with a rush when with clear sailing in the last quarter and was at least second best. Sabot, a good looker, made a promising debut and may be a good one. Our Nugget quit badly at the end. Blue Banner was nearly put over the fence when a furlong out. Dekaber, next to the rail, broke in her stride and held sway throughout, coming away fast from Royal Pirates strong challenge in the stretch. The latter, also lucky at the start and having clear sailing, was always a -prominent contender and ran in improved form on his own courage. Cardinal Wolsey, nearly left, closed a big gap and, on the far turn, where the pace was fastest, was moving through his horses as if they were anchored and was possibly best. Spring Silk is a rater and difficult to ride and no small boy can do him justice. He got away well and ran a steady and fine race and was going very fast at the finish. Polite made up fifteen lengths on the leaders after getting off very badly. Silver Heels showed a lot of speed for nearly seven furlongs. Sentinel -was all but left. Pass Book is reported to have worked well and this half-brother to Wax Taper may be expected to do better. * Scratched— 36437 Gates, 93. / „ Corrected Weights— Pass Book, 93. Baseful forced the pace throughout and stalled off with rare- gameness several strong challenges in the last furlong. Pentaur finished with a tremendous rush and ran like a coming crackerjack. Jocund broke slowly on the outsde and was compelled to run wide, losing much ground, but when straightened for home finished resolutely. Casclne, * in the middle of the field and crowded on the turn, would have been third In another stride. Prince Salm Salm ran a remarkable race for his first essay. Won driving; second easily. I " Andy Williams shows steady and pronounced improvement. He got away in his stride, ! but was taken back while rounding the first turn, then gradually moving up and under a ; long and terrific whipping finish, just got home by a head. Duke of Kendal dropped in : behind the leader and ran under a pull to the stretch, where he rushed into the lead, only I to be downed after a long struggle by the winner. The Rival made play early and appeared : to have a lot of speed in reserve even at the end of six furlongs, but when the real racing began he was passed in a twinkling, tiring palpably in the last quarter and he may not be as yet quite keyed up. Florham Queen led for five furlongs on sufferance and fell out of it as if shot when the others moved up. Won easily; second the same. v Bon Mot, on his good behavior today, broke in front, but Gannon was content to wait in behind the pacemaker and next to the rail, was repeatedly shut off and hopelessly pock-P eted at a critical moment on the stretch turn. He finally bumped his way through in the I stretch and quickly caught and passed Stamping Ground and was much the best. The latter made the running and, easing up on the stretch turn, the field closed up on her, but when straightened for home she again went away like a flash and seemed like the winner when a furlong out and ran a game and fast race. Meltonian came out of the race ■ -very lame after a very bad showing. He was at no time dangerous and appeared to have 1 his hands full early in the game to keep up. Odom brought him up at the end, where he outstayed his stable companion. Brigand ran very much as if short and may be expected f to greatly improve in his next effort. Illyria sustained his speed unexpectedly well and * • is evidently being conditioned for races over a considerable distance. Scratched— 39839 The Carmelite, 102. Bon Mot, show, 3 to 5. Valour got away well and held a prominent position and when making a fast move on the 1 far turn was jostled back and it was only after the field was well on Its way home that ; he got through and drew clear in the last sixteenth, finishing fast and gamely. Pristina ran a remarkable race, closed a tremendous gap from a bad start and finished like a . cyclone. Nameoki was probably the best, got away badly and had to work a very rough journey before he got into contention and then he was carried out on the turn, but was i putting up a game fight at the end. Sailor Knot gave a glimpse of his true form and, after following the fast pace closely, finished out the journey well. Sweet Tone failed to stay ! and had no mishaps. Excentral finished fast.
