English Lad made up ground fast in the last quarter under a hard drive and was going away at the end Witchcraft ran an impressive race, making up ground fast in the last half from a poor beginning and finished fast. Forehand showed much speed, but tired perceptibly in the closing strides. Sottlier of Fortune closed with a rush at the end, after closing up ground in the stretch. Flo Bob was beaten when a furlong out and the same may be said of Marshal Ney. Beneficent showed early speed. Overweights — Helgerson, 1 pounds. English Lad, show, 3 to 5. Witchcraft, show, 4 to 1. Postmaster Wright was not called on until entering the last quarter, where he easily disposed of Big Ben and had something in reserve at the finish. High Chancellor was taken wide turning for home, but finished with a great rush under a strong ride. Big Ben tired fast in the last eighth. Gilfain ran a dull race. He appeared to have a chance in the final quarter, but hung badly when the pinch came. Bonnie Burr was never a contender. Overweights — High Chancellor, 1 pound. Postmaster Wright, show, 7 to 10. Hoodwink moved up fast in the last quarter and finished very stoutly Trinity Bell had enough when turning for home She ran a bad race. Bragg found the going too hard to run to his best form and retired after running well for six furlongs. Overweights — Trinity Bell, 1 pound; Bragg, 3. Gregor K., show, 1 to 4. Sidney C. Longflo stood a long stretch drive and just lasted long enough. Fading Light came with a rush at the end after making up ground fast in the last quarter, but could not get up. Pyrrho also made up a lot of ground in the final quarter and finished fast. Jena ran a good race and will bear watching from now on. Shogun had enough turning for home. Sarah Maxim appears to be of little present account. Alene Abbott displayed much speed but held it for only a little over six furlongs. Overweights — Lady Chorister, 3 pounds; Sarah Maxim, 1. The latter ran to her best form and finished going fast. Jane Holly showed speed, tiring only a shade in the last hundred yards. She is in excellent form at present and ready to win. J. Sidney Walker showed scant speed and is not the good colt he was last year. Golden Rule, show, out. Irene Lindsay, show, 2 to 5. Jane Holly, show, 7 to 10. The latter tired badly in the closing strides, but was best of the others. Vulcain ran an excellent race, making up ground in the last quarter and finishing resolutely. Galba had enough when a furlong out after showing much speed. John E. showed much speed also, but only for a little over six furlongs. Vincennes, show, evens. Thane, show, 1 to 4. Vulcain, show, 7 to 1.
