Start good. Won easily; second the same. Sidney C. Love was in rare fettle. He set a scorching pace throughout and had run everything into submission, save Epicure, by the time the head of the stretch had been reached. The latter was cut off at the first quarter, losing some ground. He finished resolutely, but had no chance to beat the winner. Flying Ship tired fast just after turning ,for home and was eased up somewhat in the closing strides. Determination, off flying, showed the most speed and easily stood off Saltos determined challenge in the final sixteenth. The latter was the best of the others. Lady Free Knight finished fast. Cognomen ran a good race, but tired in the last sixteenth. Sol Smith showed some early speed. Gus Heidorn was pocketed for the first three furlongs and had no chance when he got clear sailing. Hoodwink stood a long stretcli drive gamely and got up in time to nip Beau Ormonde on the post. The latter showed much speed, but was well beaten when a sixteenth out. About a mile is as far as he probably cares to go. Boaster finished going fast. Thane tired fast after entering the last quarter. A new track record. Scratched— 39980 Lucien Appleby, 107. Golden Rule easily wore down First Chip in the final eighth and had little trouble in standing off Jack Rattlins determined challenge in the final sixteenth. The latter was interfered with at the half-mile post, but not enough to change the result. He finished going fast. First Chip showed much early speed, but tired when a furlong out. Evas Darling ran her usual honest race. Balm of Gilead ran well for five furlongs. The others were never serious contenders. Scratched— 397853Jim Clark, 124; 39823 Erema, 115; 39833 Nervator, 110. John McGurk was not called on until turning for home, where he moved up fast and outstayed Gold Bell in a sharp last sixteenth struggle. The latter ran right back to his former good race and stood a long stretch drive with great gameness, but was not quite good enough. Sinner Simon tired slightly when the pinch came, but ran in greatly improved form and bears watching hereafter. Rolling Boer ran a dull race, sprawling badly / -when the pinch came. Caxton ran his usual honest race. The latter showed speed and stood a long stretch drive, but could not quite get up. Fleuron ran an impressive race, stubbornly contesting every foot of the last eighth with Trinity Bell. Monarka began slowly, but closed up. ground steadily in the final quarter. She was jostled by Trinity Bell all through the last sixteenth on the outside, having swung wide turning for home.
