Dick Welles, off well back of the field, loafed all down the backstretch, but Knight hustled him up when turning for home and in the greatest sprint ever seen on any track he caught Runnels in the final hundred yards and outstayed him to the wire. The latter ran a high-class race and stood a. last eighth drive with great gameness. John Peters showed a marvelous turn of speed, but tired fast in the final eighth. A. D. Witchcraft began slowly, but made up ground fast turning for home and outstayed Jason in a stirring last sixteenth struggle. The latter showed much speed, but tired when challenged by the winner. Buccaner tired palpably when the pinch came, but ran a good race at that. Helgerson finished going fast when running next to the inside rail. Trompeuse appeared to have a chance when a furlong out, but faltered badly in the last hundred yards. Instructor ran out to the outside rail just before turning for home. Requiter stood a long stretch drive and finished with a riish toward the outside rail just getting up in time to nip Lonsdale on the post. The latter showed much speed, but tired palpably in the closing strides. Proceeds tired fast when a furlong out and appears to run to his best form on a soft or heavy track. English Lad was crowded out of position at the start and had no chance thereafter. Was practically left. Fore and Aft closed up much ground in the last quarter and finished going fast. Glassfull tired when a sixteenth out. Bondage began slowly, but was passing horses fast in the closing strides. Esherin appeared to have a chance when turning for home, but tired fast when the pinch came. Aladdin showed early speed. He appeared to be high in fiesh.
