Mag Nolin showed early speed, cut Jehane off sharply while rounding the turn out of the backstretch, assumed a big lead, but was tiring and just lasted long enough. Jehane lost several lengths when Weber pulled her up on being cut off, but came fast on the outside and was wearing the winner down at the end. Enigma ran a-good race and finished fast. Matt Wadleigh was taken back on the far turn when he looked like a winner. It was a very bad i-ace for him. Scratched— 39993 Hast du Gesehen, 105; 399203Lord Hermence, 103; 399662Allegrette, 100. Shilling rated him well in front and the horse came away from the others with a rush in the stretch. Eda Riley found the sharp turns bothersome and lost ground on them, but finished strongly. Maltster ran well to the stretch, but tired in the final furlong. Kaffir did not display his usual speed and ran a bad race. De Reszke, show, out. Eda Riley, show, 1 to 2. Maltster, show, 1 to 2. Miss West was well placed behind the leaders, saved ground while turning for home, closed up stoutly in the stretch and finished fast. Presbyterian set a hot pace and shook off Tom Crabb, but tired in the stretch run. Orpheum closed up a lot of ground running on the outside and was probably best, as the outside horse has a lot the worst of it on the sharp turns of this track. Tom Crabb quit after taking Presbyterian a fast furlong. Extol made up ground in a hurry, then tired. Howling Dervish was badly ridden. Scratched— 33995 Sam Lazarus, 100. Neversuch was rushed to the front, then taken back and saved for the final effort, closing up gallantly when called upon and winning in the last stride. Memphian appeared to have the race won when Higgins became careless and let Bridwell sneak past him on the outside. Hanan was a keen contender -to the last sixteenth, when he suddenly tired. Class Leader got away badly and was weakly handled. Chickasha can do better. Overweights — Varner, 3 pounds; Chickasha, 2. Neversuch, show, out. Memphian, show, 2 to 5. Hanan, show, 8 to 5.
