Reveille, away poorly, steadily improved his position and, finishing like a cyclone, came away from the tiring leaders as if they were anchored. Mordella was slightly crowded back m the early running, but quickly recovered the lost ground and followed the pacemaker closely into the straight, where she showed in front momentarily and held on gamely in the closing drive. Ancestor took the lead and held it by a good margin for nearly five furlongs, when she suddenly fell away and then came again right at the end. Atwood moved up fast when straightened out in the homestretch and, after getting on terms with the leaders, quit badly in the last sixteenth. Wizard unexpectedly raced into-prominent contention m the first half and then failed to stay, but suffered from crowding. Reticent went well. Highwind tired after going a good six furlongs. Valour got away badly and had but scant chance in this big field. Scratched 42513Emergency, 104; 4253SChamplain, 95. Winner Ch. f, by Golden Garter Amourette trained by J. Hynes. Went to post at 2:35. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second driving. Girdle, improved in form, got away in her stride and was quickly passed by Neither One, which she indulged with the lead until straightened for the long stretch run, when she flashed to the front and gamely held her own to the finish and was evidently best at the weights. Early Eve held a forwai-d position from the start and made good with a fast and game stretch run. Sabot is a superior filly and will beat good ones, was crowded for three furlongs and finished running faster than everything but the winner. Ascension came along right at the end with a good burst of speed, swerving, however, badlv under the whip. Gaviota, away poorly, closed up a lot of ground. Ice Water got away badlv. Troxlers lack of alertness was responsible for it. She mowed down one by one of the field rapidly in the first half, but turned for home on the inside behind the leaders and was anchored right there. Cottage Maid closed up very fast in the stretch. Overweights Sabot, 1 pound; Cottage Maid, 3; Charmel, 3. Girdle, show, 8 to 5. Early Eve, show, 2 to 1. Sabot, show, 7 to 5. Winner Ch. c, by Hastings Nineveh trained by F. Regan. Went to post at 3:00. At post 4 minutes. Start straggling. Won handily; second easily. Namtor broke flatfooted, moved up fast into a contending position in the early running and fell in behind Our Nugget to midway of the stretch, where he wore her down and won going away. Forward came through on the inside in the stretch run and finished a fast going second, running in remarkably improved form at the distance. Hackensack was well up throughout, ran a good race and is worth remembering. Blue Victor, away badly, closed a big gap. Paul Clifford could never get to the front and was reserved in behind the leaders with good results. Dramatist had a rough journey to the stretch and when with clear sailing finished fast. Sir Ship made up a lot of ground after getting away badly. Contend quit after going a fast five furlongs. Mary Worth got away very badly. Sweet Alice, lucky at the start, trailed right in behind the tremendously fast pace and, closing up steadily in- the stretch run, finally got on terms and outstayed the favorite at the end. Irene Lindsey, away none too well, was injudiciously sent after the non-staying Counterpoise, which had beaten the barrier and, although she put up a brilliant stretch run and appeared almost throughout the winner, she faltered in the last half-dozen strides. Futur-ita lost ground at the start and, content to wait on the leaders, made up a lot of ground in the last quarter and finished a close up third. Embarrassment was excessively urged to keep up with the leaders and tired badly in the last furlong. Counterpoise sustained his superior speed well today. Lady Amelia displayed her best form and is as good as ever. Outclassing her field, she won all the way, was never extended and the result never in doubt. Mineola came from i long way back right at the end and had been frequently crowded and shut off by swerving horses, finished -with a rush and is becoming very good. For Luck, after a game and fast effort to overtake the winner, was caught in the last stride for second place. Graceful came through on the inside and was gaining rapidly in the final drive. Toi San loomed up when beginning the last furlong, after which she tired badly. The others were all outclassed and cut no figure in the running. Kollo was up on even terms in the early running and gradually dropped back, trailing Lord Jige. closely, however, and when straightened out for the stretch run went up again and, ffter a long and terrific struggle, finally shook off the old horse and again was forced to stand off Illyrias challenge right at the end. He was best and is a high-class colt and a Derby prospect. Illyria ran lapped on the winner throughout and repeatedly bumped him in the stretch, ran a surprisingly fast and game race and it was the best he has ever shown at the distance. Lord Badge was a good horse today, forced the pace throughout and only succumbed in the last fifty yards. Scratched 42586 Colonel Bill, 126; 424053Lady Potentate, 109.
