Went to post at 2:05. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Forward, in rare form and favored by the going, ran lapped on the pacemaker to the stretch, where he easily took the lead and held it without much effort to the end. Moro-kanta, also a superior mudlark, steadily improved his position, closing up with a rush when straightened for home. Nine Spot closed a big gap from a poor start and ran a cracking good race. Worry showed a lot of speed and forced a stiff pace for nearly six furlongs. Early Eve tired badly in the going and ran an uncommonly bad race for her, but was on the rail throughout where it was extra deep and holding. St. Barnaby ran a very bad race for a horse particularly fond of muddy going. Mary Street and The Guardsman both ran far below their best form. Winner B. c, by Badge Mocking Bird trained by W. L. Oliver. Went to post at 2:30. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Lord Badge, always an extra good horse on a track such as prevailed today, simply spread-eagled his field and nothing ever got near him. Brigand, probably not at his best in such going, ran a fast and game race and was easily the best of the others. Sabot trailed far in the rear and finished bespattered with mud and going fast and made up considerable ! ground in the stretch under a poor ride. Circus was hopelessly outrun and unable to stride freely in the going, failed to close up at the end and ran a bad race. Akela failed to stay after showing a lot of speed and ran as if he sulked. Winner B. c, by Rapallo Garniture trained by B. Littlefield. Went to post at 2:55. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won easily; second driving. Garnish, evidently a superior class colt, ran into the lead early and easily retained his advantage to the finish. Longspur, a slow beginner and as usual unable to keep up in the early running, closed up in the stretch run with a rush and is a genuine stayer. Cham-plain, on the inside in the deep going, forced the early running, then went very wide on the turn and finished out the long stretch run on his own courage and was second best. Dutiful loomed up midway of the homestretch and then unexpectedly fell away in the final sixteenth. Bob Murphy ran a bad race. However, he is a superior colt on a muddy track and should at least have been able to lead this field for half the journey. Wild Thyme is in grand form, never allowed the favorite to get very far away, challenged him when straightened for home and outstayed him in a long and trying effort, getting up to win in the last stride. Ahumada, like the winner, was particularly favored by the going . and made the running under restraint for six furlongs. ONeill held him well in hand nearly to the end and he finally succumbed in the last half dozen strides. The others were beaten off. Florham Queen, having the best of the weights, drew away from Gravina and Colonsay in the stretch run. Gravina unexpectedly failed to stay and was probably handi- Continued on third page. r AQUEDUCT FORM CHART-CONTINUED. capped by Cochrans weak efforts, as he rode far below his normal weight and was far from strong. Beldame, a superlative mudlark, won all the way and, cantering at the end, was much the best in the going. Harangue, evidently handicapped on a muddy track, ran a high-class, game race and was easily second best, but was outrun early and labored throughout to keep up. Palette was a keen contender throughout for second place, ran a fast and game race and was favored by the track conditions. Ikki fell away at the end after showing good speed for half the journey. Winner Ch. g, by Knight of Ellerslie Lizzie Pickwick trained by W. Lakeland. Went to post at 4:30. At post 4 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second easily. Erbe, very fit and good in the going, followed the favorites early running closely to the stretch, where he finally wore him down and won going away. Trepan, away in his stride, forced the pace in the inside bad footing and seemed to have the race won when he was suddenly challenged by the winner and tired unexpectedly right at the end. The Captain, getting away poorly, a great deal was taken out of him in an early effort to get up into a contending position and that may have beat him, but ran a game race. The others were beaten off. Heir Apparent shows improvement. Hymettus is a good looker and can do better. Sir Ship had no chance at the start. Norbury, a good looker, had recently worked a mile easily in 1:41. Overweights The Captain, 2 pounds; Burning Glass, 2; Roamer, 1. Erbe, show, 6 to 5. Trepan, show, 1 to 2. The Captain, show, S to 5.
