Ort Wells was easily the best at the weights, won with plenty to spare and is probably a better colt than he has shown. Champlain showed improvement and ran a fine race, finishing fast under the whip after he seemed to be beaten. Sais made a bold effort when a furlong from home, but tired in the final drive. Orthodoxs performance was a poor one, much below his true form. Singing Girl had no chance at the start. Lord of the Valley and Monster outbroke the others and had the race between them all the way, Lord of .the Valley outlasting the other and drew away In the final furlong when Wonderly shook him up, is a good colt and improves with each race. Monster developed speed with a rush and his race was a big improvement, but he was tiring fast at the end. Graziallo began slowly, but made up a lot of ground and finished fast. Jocund ran in next to the rail all the way and saved ground, but could not get up, running a poor race. Silver Dream ran below her true form and was never dangerous. April Shower came fast in the stretch under a drive, but had no chance to beat the winner. Wild Thyme began slowly and lost ground at the start, but closed a big gap and made a determined effort when a furlong from home, then tired when it came to a hard drive, lllyria ran a good race for nearly seven furlongs, then tired. Burns had to ride her hard to get clear, but she won c going away at the finish. Clear the Arena was a contender throughout and finished gamely. a Briarthorpe closed up fast in the stretch and finished resolutely, but could not get up. c Woodshade was under restraint in the first part of the race, but fell away when called on and probably was a trifie short. Colleen Bawn was a sharp contender for five furlongs. c Mimon showed speed to the stretch. It was a poor race for Sweet Tone. Trepan was easily the best at the weights, came fast through the stretch and was going : away at the end. The Guardsman, crowded at the start, made up a big gap and finished : fast and gamely. Arden showed speed, but was all out and driving at the end to stall off 1 Hyland. The latter ran well and would probably have been second with a stronger rider. McWilliams is rounding to, came wide into the stretch and was eased up in the last few strides. Moderator and Meistersinger were much used in the early racing and tired badlv. Scratched 42651 H. L.
