ADVANCE GUARD. Despite careful and persistent efforts to get Advance Guard into condition for racing, he could not be brought to the post this year and it is more than probable that the stout-hearted son of Great Tom and Nellie Van will never race again. He was a wonderful campaigner, a stayer and a weight carrier of high degree. His first start was at Aqueduct, April 17, 1S99, and from that time on to the close of last year he was constantly in training and a public favorite wherever he . was raced. In the course of his career he started in 1C2 races, of which he won 49, was second in 39, third in 28 and unplaced in 15. His record: Year. 1st. 2nd. 3rd. Unpl.
