THE NEW YORK RACING PRODUCT. In 1902 the New York tracks, Buffalo not counted, produced a total of ,798,975 for winning owners. This year there was a significant increase over that great sum, the tabular comparison making the following showing: 1902. 1903. Coney Island Jockey Club, two meetings 73,385 33,840 "Westchester Racing Association, two meetings 382,700 358,983 Brooklyn Jockey Club, two meetings 343,215 360,380 Brighton Beach Racing Association, two meetings... 226,605 300,697 Saratoga Racing Association, one meeting 231,135 276,275 Queens County Jockey Club, two meetings 141,935 125,920 Metropolitan Jockey Club, three meetings 165,965 Totals ,798,795 ,122,060 Gain of 1903 23,265 Last year Brighton Beach had but one meeting while this year it had two, and the Metropolitan Jockey Club was a factor unknown in 1902. The great gain of this year was due to the wise course of the Jockey Club in prescribing a minimum for stakes and purses offered by all clubs under its jurisdiction. The Buffalo Racing Associations meeting at Kenilworth Park was productive of 2,170, but is not included in the foregoing table. Last year McLewee and Co. headed the list of Metropolitan winning owners, but this year, despite some strokes of ill fortune, Hon. W. C. Whitney is the leader by a decided margin, with 02,569 to his credit, as compared with 8,SG1 in 1902. Next to him is J. B. Haggin with a total of 9,795, a considerable increase overMs 9,890 of last year. It might be said here that the horses raced in the name of Sidney Paget, W. B. Jennings and Green B. Morris, where wholly or in part Mr. Hagglns property and had all been raced in his name he would have been far in the lead of winning owners with a total of 00,350 to his credit For a newcomer E. R. Thomas did exceedingly well in winning 3,250, and the Hampton Stable, Sidney Paget, August Belmont and J. B. Madden had satisfactory Pe turns from their horses.
