Arcade, hard held and close up in the early running, failed to make good when called on in the stretch run. Past Master closed up steadily throughout and finished a fast going third. Blissful tired badly in the goinsr after running prominently for nearly five furlongs and was probably short. Hellas showed a good turn of speed. Gorgalete is a better filly than shown here. Effervescence, poorly ridden and prominent in the early running, swerved all over the course in the stretch run. The Bugaboo, a good looker, was shufHed back at the half and finished fast. Hainault was practically the only serious contender and was fast wearing the winner down at the end. Albemarle was poorly ridden, went very wide and failed to make much headway on the outside-dry path in the stretch run. Thisbe finished eased up. So did Velma Clark. I Winner B. c, by Lissak Lida H. trained by M. J. Daly. I Went to post at 3:34. At Dost 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second driving. Claude, on the outside in dry going and away in his stride, took the lead at the start and made his own running throughout, won all the way well in hand and easily outclassed his field, particularly in the stiff going. Fossil held a forward position throughout, closing up very fast in the stretch run. Grail, another prominent contender, finished on the inside in the worst going and that beat her for second place. Lord Melbourne, after a fast move on the far turn in which he loomed up a dangerous contender.fell away in the closing strides and was anchored in the heaviest footing. Horatius, a slow beginner, trailed the field to the final quarter, where he closed up like a cyclone. Divina was handicapped by the stiff going and could never get up into serious contention, but is a superior class filly on a fast track. Proper ran a bad race and was never dangerous and unable to raise a respectable gallop. Ben Mac Dhui, overweighted and, possibly somewhat stale, tired after running up into prominent contention in the first seven furlongs. Albula went a fast mile. Scratched 42935 Lacy Crawford, 90; 42784Arabo, 106. Claude, show, 8 to 5. Fossil, show, 2 to 1. Grail, show, 3 to 2. Proper, show, 3 to 5. Ben Mac Dhui, show. 3 to 5. FIFTH RACE 5-8 Mile. E M Brattain won a lucky race, forced the. pace throughout and under a vigorous finish just lasted out. Colonel Van, getting away badly, moved up like a flash when turning for home and appeared to have the race won but just failed to get up. Bay Wonder ran lapped on the winner to the stretch and was outstayed in the final drive by the first two. The Fog held a brief lead and then followed the winner closely for the first half before he retired, being evidently short. Scratched 42S75 San Nicholas, HG. E. M. Brattain, show, out. Min of Honor, always in a forward position, took the lead on the far turn and after being momentarily passed by Plan in the stretch, came on again and outstayed the latter in the lniit Sixteenth under Martins best efforts. Plan, much the Dest, was interfered with direct-W U ter the start but moved up with a rush on the far turn and leading in the stretch eemed a sure winner, but bearing out to the outside allowed the winner to get up in the last stride. Illowaho got away poorly and after going very wide on the first turn just saved I third place. Prince Blazes was a sharp contender for nearly seven furlonp. lyHonor, show, 4 to S.
