Quartre got away in her stride and led her field throughout in the best going and scored, a lucky victory. Redwald, in spite of being in deep going on the inside, held a forward position to the half, where he was badly interfered with and, pulling up, came along on the outside, closing up fast under a bad ride and swerving all over the course at the end. Buccleuth steadily improved his position after getting away badly and finished with a rush. Egg Nogg, a slow beginner, closed a big gap. Silver Fizz, shuffled back in the early running, made up a lot of ground in the last half. Lunga was a prominent contender for five furlongs. Elfin King failed to stay. AVinner Ch. f, by St. George Free Will trained by T. G. Ferguson. AVent to post at 2:43. At post 2 minutes. Start straggling. Won easily; second the same. Miss Betty, lucky and skillfully handled on the outside good going, held a forward position to the stretch, where she came away like a flash and was probably best. Caroburn sustained a superior burst of speed very gamely and forced the pace to the stretch, where she came through m the heavy going, tiring at the end and must have been short. Samar moved up fast on the far turn, but failed to stay in the final drive and was evidently not keyed up. Miss May Bowdish, nearly left, closed a tremendous gap and was running faster than everything at the end except the winner. Elizabeth E. ran a steady race. Gottlieben showed superior early speed. Rollick trailed close up to the leaders to the stretch, where he came away with a rush and won going away fast. Aunt Polly endeavored to force the pace, but was outrun on the far turn by Orsius and fell away as if beaten, only to close up in the stretch run. James J. Corbett held a forward position throughout and in taking the inside deep going in the stretch run beat himself, but finished an easy third. Idogo came from a long way back at the end and was going fast. Orsius showed a rattling burst of speed and appeared all over the winner, but failed to stay. Shot Gun, looking big and high, but outclassing his field, ran a game race in spite of his evident unfitness, was never able to get very close to the leader until in the stretch run, where he finally wore him down in the deepest going. Sad Sam beat the barrier a half, dozen lengths and came near making a runaway race of it, tired badly at the end, however, and allowed the favorite to get up. John A. Scott ran a remarkable race, as he was practically left, and must have gained twenty lengths on the leaders, finishing very fast and would have won in another sixteenth. Kenilworth had but little chance at the start, but improved his position throughout and finished like a cyclone. Geheimniss showed a fine burst of speed and tired in the stretch. Shot Gun, show, out. The Mighty, a superior class colt and skillfully handled, forced the running throughout and at the end just got home after a long and terrific stretch drive, but will easily beat this kind hereafter. Eugenie B. moved up fast when turning for home and stood a long and punishing drive home like a game cne and a stayer. Ananias, on the inside, disputed the lead with the winner from start to finish and but for being forced into the deep going throughout might have won. Red Cross Nurse trailed the leaders under a pull to the stretch, where she finished with a rush. Anirad, badly ridden, was never dangerous The Cure, nearly left and badly messed about, can do better. Last Knight ran as if he outclassed his field, raced into a long and winning lead while going up the backstretch and easily retained his advantage to the end. Anvil was the only serious contender and after forcing the pace for half the journey was compelled to relinquish the lead to the winner, after which he closely followed him home. C. B. Campbell held on steadily in third place throughout and beat the remainder off at the end. Ledus away badly, closed up some ground in the stretch run.
