Little Margaret was pocketed on the far turn, came through on the Inside in the stretch and, after a game drive to the finish, was beaten in a close fit. Maud Sherwood forced the pace and sustained it surprisingly wall throughout. Adirondack, interfered with in the early running, closed a big gap in the last half and finished running faster than the leaders. Our Pride showed a lot of speed and failed to stay. Handpress, nearly left, gained fifteen lengths on the leaders and was probably best. " Madam Bishop held on steadily, but is evidently of moderate caliber. Milas will do better over a longer route. Hipponax is still short and can do better. Overweights Little Margaret, 1 pound; Milas, 2; Lurene, 2; Hipponax, 4. Yellowstone, show, 3 to 1. Little Margaret, show, 7 to 10. Shaw, under a patient ride and with a lot in reserve, indulged Judge to the stretch, where he drew to the front cantering, winning by himself, was much the best and is a superior class colt. Judge, on the inside, got away in his stride, made the running on sufferance for a half mile and stood a long and punishing drive home, just saving second place. Silent Water held a forward position throughout, finishing fast and was wearing i Judge down at the end. Miss Ringlets, from a slow beginning, steadily improved her posi- tion, coming on at the end like a cyclone. Andrew B. Cook went well. The Cure got away : badly and was pocketed and interfered with repeatedly under a bad ride. Instructor showed a fast half. Effervescence, away poorly, ran worse. Punctilio made a verv poor showing. The Fog outclassed his field in speed and it was a case of spreadeagling it from the start. Sallie Goodwin, suddenly improved, ran the best race of her career, held on in second position throughout and showed amazing speed. Mountebank came with a rush in the stretch run and would have been second in another stride or so. Oscar Tolle took the longest way around and made up ground at the close. Alice Cary failed to stay and can do better. Orsius gave a poor display of speed for him. At post 1 minute. Start straggling. Won driving; second the same. Chub, lucky and skillfully reserved under a pull for seven furlongs, moved up in close attendance on El Oriente and, finishing fast, decisively wore him down in the stretch run. El Oriente made the running from the start, drawing clear and appearing all over the winner on the stretch turn, but tiring and swerving and badly interfered with by the winner in the final sixteenth. Dr. Bernays was always prominent and, being pocketed at the end, was compelled to pull around and then finished fast. Blessed Damozel, in spite of a rough journey in the. final quarter, finished very fast and ran a game race. Expedient, inadequately handled, was nearly put over the fence at the start and practically left, but closed a tremendous gap and ran a great race. Silver Fizz failed to stay and ran a poor race. Tonopah went a fast seven furlongs and is worth remembering. Scratched 43095Hlowaho, 110; 42S372Arthur Ray, 103; 42991 Marelio, 103. Chub, show, evens. El Oriente, show, 4 to 5. Brattain, away in his stride, made the running throughout and in a long drive home outstayed Martinmas, but was disqualified for impeding the latter. Martinmas moved up nsldo5IBrattaiinhe to the rat in the last sixteenth, was slightly interfered with and was exceedingly lucky to get the race. Colonel Van got away poorly and steadily improved his position and at the end finished going fastest of all. Escalante, inadequately handled and interfered with directly after the start, moved up with amazing speed on the stretch turn where the pace had accelerated and seemed promising when a furlong out, tiring eventually and is about due. Start straggling. Won driving; second the same. Arabo beat the barrier, but Martin failed to take advantage of it and made the running under a choking pull to the far turn, where Arabo was sent along into a safe lead and, being skillfully nursed, he just lasted out the journey. His forte is evidently over a sprinting distance. Dupont, inadequately handled, broke flatfooted and, losing much ground in the early running, steadily closed a tremendous gap on his own courage and, in a meteoric finish, just failed to get up, was evidently the best and is a coming good one over a distance. Ishtar ran prominently throughout and showed improved speed and stamina. Byron Rose, badly ridden, had a rough journey and finished fast. Allopath went a good seven furlongs. Jockey Club ran lapped on the winner for over six furlongs and the effort to beat him in the early running told on him in the closing strides. Overweights Dupont, 2 pounds. Arabo, show, 1 to 5.
